I was fooled for a moment ...

#1 Post by gator » Tue Oct 23, 2007 11:47 am

... when I thought I saw a rollcage on a recent Dell Precision series laptop. Look at the below pic:

I then realized that it was the perspective of the pic that fooled me ... reminding me how much I have come to expect a see a rollcage when I see a stripped down laptop. It is good to see dell using a magnesium case for the base, though ... The full article can be found here:

Comparing the relative ease with which you can replace a CPU on a thinkpad (even older ones), I think that other manufacturers (except maybe ASUS?) have a LONG way to go before they come close to out beloved black boxes.
Now: T60 2613-EKU | T23 2647-9NU | 600X 2645-9FU | HP 100LX
Past: X31 2673-Y13 | T41 2374-3HU | T22 2647-AEU

Rules of the road :thumbs-UP:

I've been inside a few laptops - Toshiba and Dell most recently. I have to say that the IBM is byfar the easiest.

The whole time inside the Toshiba I was cursing it because if I looked at it wrong, the keyboard would come disconnected. I'd hook up the keyboard and the power switch board would come undone

The Dell Inspirons that I disassembled (600m and 4100) didn't seem any more complicated than the Thinkpads I've worked on. The instructions that Dell provides are just as good as the HMM's for Thinkpads.
Microsoft Surface 3 (Atom x7-Z8700 / 4GB / 128GB / LTE)
Dell OptiPlex 9010 SFF (Core i3-3220 / 8GB / 8TB); HP 8300 Elite minitower (Core i7-3770 / 16GB / 9.25TB)
Acer T272HUL; Crossover 404K; Dell 3008WFP, U2715H, U2711, P2416D; Monoprice 10734; QNIX QHD2410R; Seiki Pro SM40UNP
