ebay alternatives

#1 Post by Greg Robinson » Fri Nov 16, 2007 1:48 pm

howdy everyone. first time posting here. sorry if this has been covered ad nauseam, but I'm looking to buy a used T4x series machine with a 14" SXGA display. I've looked over the PDFs and I see all the various model numbers that offer that configuration. Are there any good sites out there selling used thinkpads besides ebay that you all recommend? Trouble is, many ebay sellers don't post the model number so it's a real pain to find the "diamond in the rough." Any search or store suggestions would be appreciated - thanks!

EDIT: Apologies if this is considered a "general question" - maybe this is the wrong forum for this question. If so, please ignore...

I'm guessing you checked Craigslist for CT already?

or near Hartford?

I've tried looking for other forums/ebay alts for Thinkpads too but no luck so far.

I know Craigslist can seem sketchy but I bought a X3 mediaslice w/ CDRW & DVD in NYC for a $40.00. The guy was happy to sell it as it bought him dinner & beer!

You can always do what I do and pepper those sellers with questions as to the full model number. Since I look for T23s, they usually list the system as a "2647" (or in a recent case, "2646" ). Some of them will respond with the requested information, and still others will simply repeat the 4 digit model number (when I've asked for the full 7 characters), or provide the wrong 7 characters (fails to be found at IBM/Lenovo's systems lookup site). For high volume eBay sellers I've asked for them to list the full model number in their future auctions. A couple of them have been accommodating; others have not. Of course this can backfire; once the full number is visible, more people may become interested in the auction :? .

Of course, you can always post a "wanted" here in the Marketplace. :)
