Fastest desktop you have used.....

#1 Post by SaberX » Mon Dec 17, 2007 10:15 pm

A friend of mine just bought a new desktop computer. He got the parts and put it together himself..
Has the Core 2 Extreme Quad Core 3.0Ghz CPU!!!
4 gig's of ram
WD Raptor X 150Gig (10,000rpm) drive for main drive and two 500Gig drives for other stuff.
Also got a 24" HD LCD(1920x1080)
Geforce 8800gt at 512megs

Man the system just fly's!!!!
And i thought my desktop of P-4 3.0Ghz , 2 gig ram,74 gig raptor running Vista was fast.

Playing with my buddys system today is just fast.Dont mater what i do or what program i click on to open, it just opens it with zero lag time.As soon as i click on the mouse , the program is open.

What is the fastest computer some of you people have used???

Mine would be the CISNET 2.8Ghz, 1GB RAM, 60GB HDD@7200RPM.
Not too shabby for a freebie. :D

P-4 3GHz is quite old and slow compared to what we have today. However, still a kickass machine, if you know what to do with it. I have one myself (without the raptor and with only 1G, but running XP, so it kinda compensates for that) ;)

It still won't stay that way. After a while even the fastest computer gets bogged and slows down. :)

AMD64-3000 on an Abit AV8-3rd-Eye mobo, with 2x 1GB RAM in Dual Channel mode.
2 Seagate Barracuda hard disks, Winfast A6600GT gfx with 128MB memory. XP-Pro/SP2.
No need (yet) to go faster.

I second that. Even two years ago my AMD 64 at 1.8GHz beat my friends P4 3,2 HT.

At the moment I'm running a AMD X2 @ 2,2Ghz (soon to be overclocked) 1 small gig of ram and an old 7200hdd and a single ATI X1950Pro.

Its about as fast as the core 2 duo E6600 with 2 gigs of ram I use for work at uni.

It is.

But that's not related to my work computer.

The system I'm currently using at work:

Intel Core 2 Duo E6550 (2.33GHz)
3.25GB RAM (not sure of speed)
Geforce 7300 GS 256MB

And I'm stuck with a good old 17" CRT @ 1280 x 1024. Not sure of the other specs, but they're all better than the humble P4 1.6GHz based machines that these new ones replaced.

Fastest desktop I've ever used is my current home PC...

Intellistation Z Pro
Two 3.2GHz/1M/533 Xeon processors
2 GB RAM
Matrox Parhelia PH-A8X128 video card

I know the weakest link is my 80GB / 8MB cache / 7200 RPM IDE hard drive... trying to justify purchasing a 15K U320 drive.
