#1 Post by jacksonheights » Thu Dec 20, 2007 8:46 pm

hi everyone, i'm debating between upgrading my T42 or moving to a macbook (I do a lot of graphics work). anyone have any experience with the macbook lcds and how you think their quality compares?

(PS i know i know, dont do color work on an LCD, but I travel a lot and sometimes its all I have)

MacBook LCDs are glossy. If you work in environments with a lot of overhead lighting, the reflections can be a pain.

The MacBook Pro has the option of either the glossy or matte display. I prefer the matte. Overall brightness and evenness of lighting is very good.

My favorite notebook displays are the IPS (FlexView) models. Unfortunately, it seems like these are hard to come by these days...

OLED not likely.

LED backlit LCD, yes.

OLED does not rely on LCD technology, nor is it a lighting technology per se.

Thanks for the correction. Some VAIOs come with LED backlit LCDs.

That's correct. The 15" MacBook Pro has an LED backlit display and you can choose glossy or matte. For graphic design I think you're going to want matte; that's what I hear from most of the designers I work with. They also default the overall OS color scheme to from blue to graphite (easy to do in the system preferences), which really makes a difference in terms of your perception of colors on the screen when you're doing layout.
