Model Railroads
Are any of the members here HO Scale Model Railroaders? I am working on a new layout (40 years after dismantling my first HO layout and leaving home for school and family of my own). This time, I am well into DCC and complete digital control of most everything. ... JDH

Good luck with it. Model railroading is a lot of fun... if you have the time for it. I drew up a layout for N scale based off of the old O&W line in Livingston Manor and Roscoe. I have some of what I need to get things going, but a severe lack of time. My wife's uncle is one of the historians in the Town of Rockland and he got me all sorts of really cool stuff to go off of.
If I ever get the money to put a pellet stove in my basement the board layout will progress since it will be a little warmer/dryer to do this type of work.

Here are a couple of recent photos. I decided to work on and complete the yard and install a turntable and roundhouse as part of the base construction. I will probably get the turntable in January and get that installed.

Modell Railroad
I used to have a N type model railraod, when I was a kid.
However, during high school I dismantled it and sold off the stuff. Never had time again (and space).
However, if you ever happen to travel to Hamburg/Germany you DEFINITELY have to see "Miniature World". The largest and most expensive model railroad universe on the planet. IT IS HUGE!!!!!
Big tourist magnet for Hamburg.
My personal favorite railroad, somehow is the one of
"Peter Feigenbaum", you can google for it. It is also featured on Wired magazine and NyTimes.com
Beware: Quite shocking photos of the model city!
And very dangerous to watch it alone in the dark...
Here is a good link for photos

There does not appear to be any (or at least very few) model railroad hobbyists here. I did add another photo as I have the main Yard in and the start of a Turntable in since December. The Turntable is running (and is an indexed table), so the next step is a Roundhouse. If you can see the white paper in the photo left of the turntable, that is the footprint for a passenger station, which will come after the turntable.
In the meantime, I got a new Walthers 2000 series GP38-2 locomotive (straight DC) on sale, but the decoder I got didn't work and has to go back, so the new locomotive is not yet running

I'm not a model railroader - I work on the 12" to the foot stuff. Keep lots of boiler specs and stuff on my T43p. I've been volunteering for this stuff since I retired in 2001. You can see what I do at:jdhurst wrote:There does not appear to be any (or at least very few) model railroad hobbyists here. <snip>

Interesting. I like going for excursions in Ontario not far from where I live, but none of them are steam. The only steam locomotives around (that I am aware of) are in museums. But they are still interesting beasts. ... JDHfredstev wrote:<snip>

I have setup my stepfater's HO train set from when he was a child. I did it for him for christmas. It teared him up, and it was good to see him like it. Only problem was I had it set up on a pingpong table sitting on our pool table (blanket between them though) we had a christmas setting and everything. There's a ledge that runs the perimeter of the rec-room, so I plan on setting the track up there. if it ever happens I'll post pics.
Oh yeah, I made the mistake of using the smoke chemical. boy did that start to fill the room!
