Electric toothbrush

#1 Post by cpascu01 » Mon Jan 07, 2008 2:54 am

I'm looking to buy an electric toothbrush. I've narrowed my brand choices to Sonicare or Oral B. Any suggestions?

I hear that electric toothbrushes don't actually give you a better clean.
There just "more fun to use" so people will use them longer, ultimately providing a more thorough cleaning than a regular brush simply because your using it longer.

Take it from me as one who is older (enough) so as not to have enjoyed the benefits of flouride. Whatever you use, Floss your teeth afterward and at least daily (preferably before you retire for the evening). No matter how well you brush, flossing will remove yet more crud. ... JDH

I had been using the Sonicare for about 4 or 5 years, which I guess makes it a different/older model than their current product.

This was at the advice of my dentist, but the results were not spectacular. They started to insist on three-a-year appointments for cleaning (my insurance only pays for two) and eventually they recommended that I switch to the OralB.

I purchased the fancy guy (Triumph?) and in the last year and a half the improvement has been substantial. The dentist and hygenist say there's been a pretty significant improvement.

So here's one anecdotal recommendation for the OralB. I don't use any of the weird settings for pulse, variable brushing intensities, etc. (Nobody seems to know why they exist - I suspect bored programmers!) And I still gag violently when I use it on the upper furthest-back teeth on either side. But in general it seems like a decent product.

OralB would be my recommendation as well.
We had a 'family' version, one brush-holder and 4 color-coded brushes.
Had it for almost 9 years and never failed. just bought new brushes every once in a while. Threw it away when we moved from Ireland to USA, and I'll be getting another one in the next few days.
