Active members?

#1 Post by ThinkPad » Tue Feb 05, 2008 12:48 pm

The forum stats show close to 27,000 registered members, how many of those are actually active? My guess is a very small fraction of that number.

It's no different than any other forum of this type. People come with a problem or question, they register to get answers, they get help, they leave and get on with their lives. Very few stay around to just chat.

I just checked the Memberlist and sorted the members according to total posts. Only about 10% of all registered members have 20 posts or more.

I agree. Their loss, though. Very interesting and informative forum with great members giving specific and thorough answers.

Thank you to all who have helped me.

Generally, no. There was a recent request from a member to change his existing username to one that was already registered but has not seen any activity for a number of years. The request was denied on the assumption that whoever held the username might come back.

but only 1% (~270 members) have over 200 posts.
if we take Bill Morrow's join date as the start of the forum we get a span of about 48 months or 1400 days. Now divide that by 200 posts. We get a member to post at least once a week to get to 200. Of course not everyone joined in April 2004 but also some people posted over 200 times and never came back. I guess the purpose of feathers is to give an idea to others how active is the current member. With 250 posts you get one feather.

I cruise here very often, but rarely post. I like the variety of info on all the models, even if I don't have them.

edit: I thought I was way below the 200 post mark.

I am the same way. My Acer is my primary laptop with the ThinkPads (T20 and 570, though only the T20 works at the moment) as backup and secondary systems. I read a lot of threads but don't post much.

I'm So consumed by school that I forget I have a life at times. selfish to say, but I'm not usually active here because of everything else I have to take care of. I do enjoy the conversations here though, and I can't thank everyone here enough for all of thier help.

I'm a moderator on an horology forum in the UK and my experience is much the same, perhaps 10% of the membership have made more than 5 posts.

I've made over 12500 posts on there, if I get as fanatical about Thinkpads as I am about watches you ladies and gentlemen may get rather sick of me.

I will try to avoid that, of course.

Just joined up and enjoy reading about laptops as I am new to this world. I admin on an Asus forum and that keeps me fairly busy. This is a great forum but we have much the same experience over at the Asus forum with "short" activity. Of course, those that do stick around tend to be great folks so it is worth it. I posted a CPU upgrade guide here, that I wrote for my other forum, but I am not sure that many people want to mess with their expensive laptops doing such a thing. This is a great forum with excellent posters and staff, well done IMHO. I'm trying to post whenever I can. I am a lot busy then I was this time a year ago. I love this forum. You can find anyone that will know how to solve your problem. Any Thinkpads and parts I need I come here first before going on eBay.

I have posted like 21 or 22 times now..

Anyway, I love how "small" his forum feels. I have an account on MacRumors, which has something near 200k members. I will admit, I do go on there more regularly, but I should make a post or two every week. Look for me. :D

interesting, merc..

i just bought a new ASUS MB to build up a new desktop box..
a PK4 premium black pearl..
very pretty..
i might just drop into your ASUS forum for some help should this thing go toes-up..

AND i am about to do a cpu upgrade on my T60p to a core 2 duo..

:parrot:

AND, FWIW, when i look at the daily stats there are about 5x the lurkers to the members online..

of course this might just be members who have not signed on..

and further, there is a large number of signed up members but who were never activated for some unknown reason or for failing to enter a correct location..
i might purge these never active members..

Odd that! I've been toying with the idea of the same heart transplant on my T60P before I eventually sell it.

The CPU upgrade was a big boost to this system as i was running a 540 single core in here. I learned a lot about Laptops from the transplant and feel fairly confident i can repair anything on this R61e now. It is a very quick little PC now with the 2Gb's of RAM, 7200 16MB cache HDD and dual core CPU. The forum is at http://asustech.15.forumer.com/. Drop by antime as there are a bunch of great guys there.

I know what is going on in the forum even though i did not log into my account. Was hoping that Christopher_Wolf would make some time out from his busy medical school schedule to return to this forum to make his posts..

Sorry for not contributing because i am dealing with something else at the moment..

This forum is my "Mothership" for learning things about my ThinkPads. Very helpful place. Of course I end up buying things sometimes which isn't good for my checkbook, but gee, it's fun to fire up something new from time to time, eh?

I was a little surprised to see a feather in my avatar already...I guess I jabber a bit.
