After years of drooling for one....I finally get permission

#1 Post by dmata10 » Thu Mar 06, 2008 12:54 am

After years of drooling in magazines and seeing everyone else's home theater, I finally got permission to get one for myself. But don't get me wrong, my wife loves it also.

Nice job

But you do know that your wife will hold this over your head whenever she needs a favor, right?

Kidding. Congratulations on the new home theatre.

Nice job!

I just bought a 40" Sony LCD, and couldn't imagine having 70 more inches to work with!!

You've got a nice room to work with too.

Let the nagging begin!

You have to see it to believe it. The picture is amazing. I have a Samsung 42" Plasma and a 52" Sharp LCD and it is just as good as either or those sets. It looks as if you are watching a 110" plasma screen the picture is so good.

When watching Hi-Def off of Directv it looks just as great! Maybe even better since the image is so big you can see every detail off of the nightly news or when watching "LOST" or "American Idol". The picture on FOX, in my opinion looks better than most broadcasts even thou it is only 720P. It think it is because it is brighter than other stations.

Watching content not in hef-def is pretty good also, but you can see the difference.

But I think the biggest change that I noticed was the sound. DTS-HD Master Audio is AWESOME! I watched and listened to Aliens vs. Predator on regular DVD in DTS and then watched in High-Def in DTS-HD Master Audio and it was a totally different movie all together. I heard things not heard in the regular DVD release.

If you have the means to get a home theater, do the reserach first before you buy. I looked at everything from the screen, screen material, is the theater going to be in a lit area or a totally dark room, how big is the room, how many speakers do you want, how far is the projector from the screen, are you looking at 720P or 1080P, do you want Blu-Ray or HD-DVD (that point is moot now), what is your budget and when do you want the installation? Also look at how you have to do the work. When it comes to installation labor, the price varies greatly depending on who you use and if you have used that company before when buying audio and video equipment. They little independent a/v companies sometimes beat Best Buy, Circuit City and all the other guys depending on what you are shopping for.
