Hitachi you suck!

#1 Post by petemosss » Wed Apr 30, 2008 10:04 am

Travelstar has 3 years. Lenovo badged same HD 1 year. 1.5 years into my drives life span and it's toast and big surprise; they aren't replacing anything.

I will make sure to reach right past The green Hitachi drills and bits while at my box store buying tools this pm.

Hitachi no more!

I fail to see how any of this is Hitachi's fault (besides the dead drive, but all hard drives will die eventually). Hard drive manufacturers don't provide a warranty AT ALL on OEM drives; that is up to the OEM (in this case, Lenovo).

Is your machine in warranty? If so, it should cover the dead drive.

I should expect to get more than 1.5 years out of a hard drive that sits on my desk 99.9% of the time and stays on only 1-2 hours a day at the most. OEM whatever! It's a product and a reputation. Split hairs all you want but the fact remains I have bought over 15 Hitachi drives in the last 5 years and I won't be buying any more or any of their other products. As a small businessman I tied my best to present my case but was told to go screw myself.

Hopefully this will make someone reach past the green box today and Buy WD,Seagate, or anything else.

Yeah, this is kind of over the top really. It's OK to vent though..

HD's, like everything are not %100 ever, and never will be. I have Hitachi HD's all over the place and Hitachi Power tools, they're excellent. Michael Jackson once said "One bad apple don't spoil the whole bunch".

I never expect HD's to last anytime, that's why I have so many!! :)

Just sharing my happy shiny experience as a consumer. While I'm at it ....

Thanks Memorex for replacing that DVD drive no questions asked a couple of months ago.

Thanks Diamond for shipping me that fan to replace the defective one based on my word. The replacement works great! I just purchased a sound card from you a week ago.

Thanks Yakima Racks for shipping me those Special bolts no charge because they didn't even show up on your parts list.

Thanks Waring appliance for replacing that $100 coffee maker based on my word it wasn't brewing hot enough. The new one competes with my Neighborhood $4 bucks, just delicious!

In the end it all comes down to Service and I will be spending more with these fine folks in the future.

OK, well let's see here

Thanks Fender Guitars for helping me make a lot of extra money over the years with great epuipment and service

And thanks Winchester Firearms for taking my model 94 and resizing the barrel for free after I accidently loaded pistol powder in one of the cartridges when I was in a hurry or  . and had an extra big explosion there!

Thanks Lenovo/IBM for making great Laptops and giving me something to do besides reload bullets that may or may not have the proper powder in them thus blowing my face off!. :D

You guys are killing me. Anyone mentions David Cassidy or Leif Garrett and I'm gonna sic Bill Morrow on you.

Just kidding!

Naw, I bought it from a dealer in Houston who installed it at time of purchase. I can't seem to find him now.

It must have been owned previously by an ENRON exec. who spent more time on the course than in the office. It was like new.

I guess what really irks me is the drive doesn't say Lenovo or IBM just Hitachi Travelstar and they claim via model # that it's an OEM drive and not covered. It's 1.5 years old based on mfg. date on label. But the model # shows up everywhere on their website thus looking like it's one of their drives and It never mentions or references IBM or Lenovo by the model # on the Hitachi site.

I fix pro audio and video gear for a living and see every day good and bad companies and products and I guess I just expect more out of Hitachi. my bad

This is what Judge Marilyn Milian calls "a little rough justice". Image

The only one you have to go after would be the seller in Texas. If he installed it at time of purchase i wonder if it was new or one he had lying around his computer store. It could be more than a few years old. What are the specs on the drive and if you could post a picture of the drives label that might tell something.ImageImage

that "dealer" in houston is the guy you need to [censored] at.. :)
not hitachi or lenovo..
IF its an OEM drive the OEM is responsible for warranty..

besides, unless its one of those 250gig drives these things are so cheap these days its not worth the energy complaining about it..
just buy a new seagate and move forward.. :)
seagate gives a 5 year warranty..!

now lets all relax or i'll sic the :parrot: on y'all..

Sorry folks! Never intended to flame out here. I'm just so tired of good hard earned (Self employed) money buying things that don't meet the most basic expectations and companies that just don't care. "Waring" I listed above didn't even care I bought it on eBay. They just wanted me to be a satisfied customer. That speaks volumes!

On a lighter note from a prophetic 1980's era, Frank says it best...

Flakes- Frank Zappa

They don't do no good
They never be workin'
When they oughta should
They waste your time
They're wastin' mine
California's got the most of them
Boy, they got a host of them
Swear t'God they got the most
At every business on the coast
Swear t'God they got the most
At every business on the coast
They got the Flakes

Flakes! Flakes!

They can't fix yer brakes
You ask 'em, "Where's my motor?"
"Well it was eaten by snakes . . ."
You can stab 'n' shoot 'n' spit
But they won't be fixin' it
They're lyin' an' lazy
They can be drivin' you crazy
Swear t'God they got the most
At every business on the coast
Swear t'God they got the most
At every business on the coast
[Take it away, Bob. . .]

I asked as nice as I could
If my job would
Somehow be finished by Friday
Well, the whole [censored] weekend
Came 'n' went, Frankie
[Wanna buy some mandies, Bob?]
'N'they didn't do nothin'
But they charged me double for Sunday
You know, no matter what you do
They gonna cheat 'n' rob you
Then they'll send you a bill
That'll get your senses reelin'
And if you do not pay
They got computer collectors
That'll get you so crazy
Til your head'll go through th' ceilin'
Yes it will!

I'm a moron 'n' this is my wife
She's frosting a cake
With a paper knife
All what we got here's
American made
It's a little bit cheesey,
But it's nicely displayed
Well we don't get excited when it
Crumbles 'n' breaks
We just get on the phone
And call up some Flakes
They rush on over
'N' wreck it some more
'N' we are so dumb
They're linin' up at our door
Well, the toilet went crazy
Yesterday afternoon
The plumber he says
"Never flush a lampoon!"
This great information
Cost me half a week's pay
And the toilet blew up
Later on the next day ay-eee-ay
Blew up the next day WOO-OOO

We are millions 'n' millions
We're coming to get you
We're protected by unions
So don't let it upset you
Can't escape the conclusion
It's probably God's Will
That civilization
Will grind to a standstill
And we are the people
Who will make it all happen
While yer children is sleepin',
Yer puppy is crappin'
You might call us Flakes
Or something else you might coin us
But we know you're so greedy
That you'll probably join us
We're comin' to get you, we're comin' to get you
We're comin' to get you, we're comin' to get you
