Mortgage payment.

I know, we're not being patriotic unless we rush out and buy some sort of needless, frivolous piece of junk.

Same here. And the sentiment expressed above is very much so shared with the author.

I think either way you spend it or save it, its doing what it was intended for. If you turn around and spend it great, but if you put it towards debt or whatever else it will inevitably free you to release funds back into the economy. maybe not in the near future, but just think about it. a family of 4 with 2 of those being adult parents are going to get $1800 dollars. thats a vacation or probably in most situations a new flat panel TV!!!! either way you can thank my uncle and Ms. Pelosi for your lil checks your gonna get soon.

Hey, that's right! $1500 for me (one kid still at home) means that I can put that towards a flat panel TV. It would not make that much of a dent if I applied it to my credit card bills :( .

Interesting...I know two people specifically that DID NOT receive the full amount that they were expecting. They were capped by their tax liability...

as i understand it, if you earn more than $75k as an individual or $150k jointly with a spouse then you won't get a check at all.

I did not clearly understand this rebate (perhaps it wasn't explained clearly :x ) but I only got $323, as that is what my tax liability was for 2007. I was bummed. Plus I have come to read that whatever your rebate check is for, that amount will be deducted from your 2009 tax refund, which includes the real tax credit that Congress "created". Anyway, mine went into our savings account.

I passed on the gun I mentioned previously and got a Kel-Tec PF-9 9mm. My hands are officially destroyed from messing with it for 3 hours straight.

As I previously mentioned in this thread:

LG 42LG50 - 42" LCD 1080p

Got it this past Sunday. The wife wanted to bring it home on Saturday but I told her I needed to do some research on it. Kinda anal about looking at the specs and searching for reviews before I spend the big bucks on something like this. Decided that it wasn't all that bad for the money ($1500). It had enough inputs for use with my current equipment and future upgrades. Went back to the store the next day and it was $150 cheaper :) . Bought the 3 year extended warranty just in case...

Something this big really shows the difference in the source material (cable vs. satellite vs. digital cable vs. DVD; what I currently have in order of increasing quality). I guess it's time to start thinking about upgrading the ancient Dishnetwork receiver to HD and getting a Blu-Ray :P . Hey, maybe next year when another stimulus payment hits the checking account, eh ?

Enjoy

One other thing - get the HDMI cables, they make a heck of a world of difference (compared to component cables ) for 1080i sources like HDTV.

I would if I could :) . Dish receiver's best output is S-Video. Panasonic DMR-E85H (DVD-Hard drive recorder) best is component video. HDMI was only a few years old when I bought the Panasonic in 2004. It didn't exist when I got the Dish system. Thus the thought about upgrading the other video equipment. The LG has three HDMI inputs, two sets of component inputs and only one S-Video. Just enough for my current setup and hopefully for future expansion. Actually, now that I think about it, the best HD experience is with the digital cable (Comcast) tuned to the local PBS station (KQED).
