Dell tablet
Dell tablet
I am looking to replace my X60, which has been a brilliant machine generally, but the screen, both in quality and resolution, has always been a drawback.
I was thinking of an X60 or X61 Tablet but I also see Dell has recently issued a tablet (Dell Latitude XT). Does anyone have any views please over how this Dell Tablet might compare to an X60 or X61 Tablet, neither of which I have used previously.
Thanks.

From what I can tell, I vastly prefer the X60t and X61t, but my personal experience is limited to ownership of those two machines. I have never owned nor used a Latitude XT, so I can't comment on its usability, but here is my impression of the specifications:
Both use Intel Core 2 processors, but the Latitude uses ULV (Ultra-Low-Voltage) up to 1.33GHz/533FSB/2MB-L2 whereas the X61 uses LV (Low-Voltage) up to 1.8GHz/800FSB/4MB-L2. The X61 should perform much better.
The Dell can be had with either 4-cell or 6-cell batteries whereas the X61t goes up to 8-cell.
The largest hard drive available in the Latitude (at least from the manufacturer) is a 120GB, 5400RPM. Lenovo offers a 200GB, 7200RPM option. This is because the Latitude uses 1.8" PATA drives and the X61t uses 2.5" SATA drives.
Also, the Latitude seems to be far more expensive from a cursory look at Dell's web site. An extremely basic configuration with a Core Solo (not dual-core) 1.06GHz, 1GB of RAM, and a 40GB hard drive costs $2597. Lenovo's base configuration for the X61t is a Core 2 Duo 1.6GHz with 1GB of RAM and an 80GB hard drive which costs $1510. Both prices are from the manufacturers' sites with no coupons or discounts applied.
The weights are similar; the Lenovo with the 4-cell weights 3.77 lbs and the Dell with the 4-cell weighs 3.57 lbs. The X61 is a bit thicker, but not as large overall because the Dell has a widescreen (1280x800) and the Lenovo a 4:3 standard screen (1024x768 or 1400x1050).
Hopefully this helps you a little bit. I'd definitely be inclined toward the Lenovo; that said, I may be biased
. Even so, the Dell's specs are not good enough for the exorbitant price they are asking IMHO.

Get a flight over to the USA and buy a TP in the USA with international warranty.
Still cheaper than buying locally in the UK.

I'm guessing that the high price tag has something to do with it being the only full multitouch tablet on the market right now. Other tablets only allow one or two fingers to be used, but this supports input from all your fingers a the same time. This makes it possible to use it for things like on-screen piano playing, shorthand court reporting, etc.
