Wireless Gateway

#1 Post by Peter_Peril » Mon May 05, 2008 8:08 pm

I've been researching wireless gateways for the a couple of weeks and I'm starting to get that "grassy knoll" feeling. It's that intuitive inner urging that whispers and echos in your subconscious mind...somethings not right..what are they not telling me.

I got this feeling when I thought hey wouldn't it be lovely if I could upgrade my cable modem and router...get rid of all that ugly Cat5 strung underneath the carpet and tacked over the doorways; in exchange for a wireless device that could do it all. This is when I started my search for the device that would take me into the next decade feeling like a member of the technocracy.

However-- the closer I got to locating the perfect residential cable gateway the more barriers seemed to be put in front of me. either they were too expensive, not secure enough, or not available for the consumer market (they seem popular in the Uk and Europe though). :x I' think I've seen all the stuff on the market so far and I'll probably settle for the Netgear CG814WG or the Belkin 54G. These are yesterday's products though.

So I want to know if anybody else is getting a similiar feeling about these kinds of products, why aren't they more affordable choices I don't really want an N class device just yet my. Are the Service providers in league with a secret cabal with the goal of frustraing our wireless access dreams! What do you think am I outstanding in my field of dreams?! (yikes I probably shouldn;t drink the good hooch while posting) End of pseudo-rant.
