Exam Studying...

#1 Post by Trekk69 » Sat May 10, 2008 8:09 am

As much as I love to learn and enjoy studying/reading for exams....I am constantly driven to this site for 'many frequent' "study breaks"....just to avoid doing work!...Arggg!!

I have final exams monday. But I have never been able to study ... it just doesn't work for me. I figure if I haven't retained it throughout the semester, I won't be able to learn it in a day.

Yo have a point, some ppl have the innate ability to be excellent cramers, myself is not one of them.
I just try to stay on top of the notes during the semester, and than come to finals time I focus on the details I negated in my summaries I'd read throughout the semester.
Study tips?
- Lots of water
- Lots of rest
- Eat well
- Take frequent breaks/change the subject
- Exercise to keep the mind active and the body healthy!

what worked for me was setting myself certain amount of time for studying. for example you can decide that you are going to study 8 hours a day no matter what you finish. so i would study bio for 4 hours, take a 20 minute brake to eat (just a tiny bit and not too much - you don't want valuable blood to be drained into your stomach instead of going to the brain) and then I would study for another 4 hours whatever other subjects I had left. and i have always promised myself not to ever log on to internet during the dedicated time to study.

if you're studying then either turn the computer off or disconnect yourself from the internet unless you have to do research.   it's much too easy to get distracted.

close the browser, open the book. :)

My downfall, is that I have all my notes on Onenote (inked on the powerpoint slides in class), and haven't bothered to print them off (the point of getting a tablet). So whether I am at home or the library I need my computer.
But I have enough discipline and manage to get the studying done, I generally just check the website in between readings as my study break for 5-10mins.
Cheers,

I know what you mean, same here (but not for long I have just one exam and final research to do, and I'll have master's degree, so so happy...Doctorate degree will wait for few years...). I have same habit (I believe it's not a problem if you produce results in general), just take it as i did, as a "reward" after long or hard work. One more thing that happened to me, if i say to myself "ok, you will not go online anymore when you preparing exam", you will find something (anything) else to do, just to make a brake..... My advice: relax, do your job, no matter how many breaks you do, everything is ok aslong you finished what you started (just beware of deadlines).... Goodluck....

Good break, now back to the books!

It just got to show that many of us are addicted to this site... Disconnect your internet connection for 1 week (might work). :D

Those are what I do when I don't have exams. I smoke a lot and take pills for not falling asleep before my exams, which is not a very smart idea I have to say. (falling asleep during exam is not funny at all) But I usually don't have any choice. I'm sort of person who won't do anything today if he knows there is tomorrow.

My dad is the opposite. He used to study regularly and before exams he went out and play. It turned out to be a very efficient way of study. But for me "study regularly" is almost impossible.

I've already got all my games confiscated.

And I shall be disconnected from internet very soon.

Ahh yes, I know I like to study regularly, but come exam day, I generally stop about 2-3hrs prior to the exam and relax/do nothing/surf the net/etc to ease my mind!
