iTunes won't recognize iPod

#1 Post by Sleep Machine » Sun May 18, 2008 8:22 pm

1. iPod shows up in Windows Explorer.
2. iTunes Helper is checked in Startup.
3. iPod Service is set up for Automatic and is started.
4. But ... when I open iTunes and then plug in my iPod:
a. I get the following error message:
The instruction at "0x00427259" referenced memory at "0x000000044". The memory could not be read.
b. iPod Service stops.
c. iTunes does not recognize the iPod.
5. Reinstalled iTunes and Quicktime to no avail.
6. Repaired iTunes to no avail.
7. Any ideas?

Is this the first time you have ever synced your iPod with your computer? If not, when you first connected it by USB did your computer eventually find it as an external drive and give a message that the drive was installed and ready to use? My last question, and this is stupid but I have done it myself, after you connect your iPod, do you then turn it on?

1. Have used iTunes for about three years.
2. This is third iPod.
3. No problems until now.
4. When I connect iPod, it automatically turns on and I get the DeviceMsgListenerWnd: iPodService.exe - Application Error message listed above.
5. I assume that it is a registry problem with iPodService.exe, but I can't find anything on the net about the problem.
6. Looks like I will have to call Apple iTunes support now.

right, I have seen a similar message when trying to access an SD card. perhaps some portion of the flash memory of the iPod is corrupt. Syncing to another computer would tell the tale.

you dont have to wipe your ipod to sync to another computer. just make sure you check to MANUALLY manage music from the 2nd computer library
