edit: I got too excited, this is only 2 x 2 GB as ShoTTa35 clarifies.

wait, i think you're getting the wrong idea there gator :)

These are 2 x 2GB chips - just "high performance" (whatever that means).

The last time i saw anything about 2 x 4GB chips it was said to cost about $500 for the kit.

that's a single 4GB stick for $300. Granted it's for servers but making it for laptops is just as expensive.

What are you guys doing that requires so much RAM on your laptop? I have 4GB (3GB under XP) on my main work desktop and I have never seen usage over 1.5GB in the performance task manager. The biggest RAM hog on all of my machines is Firefox.

t20user, I typically don't use more than 600-700 MB of RAM, but when I run matlab simulations I do need lots more. Many users use photoshop and other video editiing tools that suck up RAM like there is no tomorrow :)

Then there are games, you know ...

video chipsets can slurp up some of your memory, too, since many of them (including discreet chipsets) use system memory to add to their own.

the quadro FX 3700 that i have in my thinkstation has 512MB dedicated and reserves 2GB of system memory for when it's needed.

hmm looks like i was wrong a bit too

They are $625 for 1 stick so it would cost $1250 for 8GB of RAM.

at least we know it works though:

Price of RAM that equals the price for the rest of the machine...

Thanks, I can wait...
