Pandaware ActiveScan

What's the acknowledged best AntiVirus program out there?

Not what you use and like - what's rated the best?

I use and like Norton, always have. Whenever I use a system with McAfee on it I cringe. I've given people Grisoft's AVG, which is better than nothing (it's free), but on after reading some interesting threads about virii etc. I went to:

http://www.pandasoftware.com/activescan ... ncipal.htm

and tried it. It's a little misleading, says "no software to install" yet it requires you to install an ActiveX control.

Anyway, it picked up a trojan on one system - and something else on my T42p. I was able to view the log for the one system (it found something called Downloader.LS) but for the life of me I couldn't find the log for the item it found on the Thinkpad.

Anyway, all of these systems are scanned regularly with NAV, I have every piece of industry-leading antispyware installed (all the good stuff - that's FREE), I use Firefox, and I'm generally very careful where I go online.

So, if you will pardon the circuitous message, which AV is best, rated by who, and do you use it? Why or why not?

Thanks, kj

a) what does this have to do with t-series tps???
b) a simple search on google would have told you that nod32 holds the record for the virus bulletin's 100% detection record - so officially it is the best and yes i use it; would not use anything else.

Thanks Bill or whomever for moving this thread. Though I'm discussing my T42's AV it is best to be in this forum.

SimonCC, I'm sorry but I've never heard of NOD32. I see what you mean here though:

http://www.virusbtn.com/vb100/archives/ ... .xml?table

But several others I've never heard of also have consistent 100% rankings. How to choose?

Never heard of Nod32 - this on it's own doesn't mean much really, but simply looking at the chart linked by Keith, I have to agree with him - as I don't have any machines running NT why shouldn't I consider AVG as a 100% reliable AV?

As it happens I run Norton Pro on my 2 servers and AVG on the portables - I'm running a Panda 'online' scan now on my T42j ust to see what it throws up...
