good connection profile manager (aside from access conn)

#1 Post by Nabeel » Tue Jan 04, 2005 8:14 pm

My parents just bought an e-machines laptop (hey, can't beat it for $600, it's not too bad...)
But the built in windows wireless manager doesn't have WPA, so we have to use WEP for now.

But, my main question, is there a good wireless profile manager, like access connections, that can be used to manage connections on that machine? I've looked around, but haven't really found anything. Tucows and Download.com haven't really got nothin

Thanks!

Nabeel, how come you're moving away from Access Connections? Just curious...

Perhaps I misunderstood, but I thought Nabeel mentioned his parents buying another laptop - sadly there exist in this troubled world other brands of laptop - we would be mistaken to believe there are only Thinkpads...to this end, I get the impression he wanted to know if a non-IBM access connections programme existed.

Hahaha, ian is correct, it's not for me.
I told them about Thinkpads, but a little too expensive for their casual web browsing/email checking/radio listening

Thanks to Nabeels question, I have downloaded and begun playing with this software - seems to be everything I need for the three HP laptops our useless IT guy bought us to use at work...thanks sinewave for the advice.

Hmm, I'm playing around with it, it doesn't seem to be what I'm looking for.
I'm looking for a program that'll completely manage the connections, like AC does. I'm looking for the options for WEP or WPA, but can't any options like that. Or maybe I'm using it wrong?

Edit: Actually, I found a program
http://pctel.com/roamingclient.html
Not bad, supports WEP and WPA, and also alot of other wireless protocols aside from 802.11 (though they're plugins), but it's better than the built-in Windows client, so far.
