Here is the problem:
I have a very old toshiba laptop (got it for $100 2 years ago, along with docking station, 3 batteries, external cd rom, floppy, 2ac adapters, port replicator and floppy drive), that has outlasted 2 other laptops, an acer and a t41 that died due to the gpu issue (currently waiting for superior reball to tell me they can fix it). The problem is that when you plug it in after removing and re-installing the extra life battery, it charges for maybe 30 seconds, then stops, and you need to unplug it, take out the battery, re-install the battery, and plug it in, and it charges for another 30 seconds. When it is not charging it does not recognize the battery as being there, but if you unplug it, it keeps running, abeit without telling you what the remaining life is. I have 2 standard-life batteries, and if I put them in, plug it in, after about 30 seconds, the power light starts flashing, and if it is powered on, it shuts off, just dies. In the manual, it says that the flashing power light means cpu overheating, which is not the issue, since I just switched the thermal compound and it is running substantially cooler than before, or a problem with the ac adapter, which is not the problem since I have tested this computer with multiple adapters and the problem still occurs. The other possible problem in the manual is that the internal tempurature may be too high, or there could be a problem with the internal converter. If anyone can give me any information, it would be greatly appreciated, since I have managed to find power adapters in all my classes, but I am tied to the outlet untill the system compleately shuts down. When it is opened up, and a battery is installed and charging, I can hear a high-pitched wine coming from motherboard, and it seems to A) come from multiple places, and B) get progressively louder, and it stops when the battery stops charging.
Before you ask if there has been anything done to the computer, I puked on it in december, but the problem was occuring before that, so I don't think that is the problem.
If anyone has had a problem like this with any laptop, and managed to get it fixed, I would like to hear how so that I can try, since this is a good backup laptop.
thank you
Jack
Please put down anything that may be vaguely, distantly related I am desperate, it is starting to annoy me.
