Buy of the day:
X32

Just picked up an X31 with a bad board from a forum member last week too. It has all the parts I will need for this one

Made an offer, since I can't figure out why my T61 will not charge (see thread). I will probably just part it out....

T61p with 14" SXGA+ screen:
http://cgi.ebay.com/Lenovo-Thinkpad-T61 ... 2521wt_905
warranty - Expiration date: 2012-03-12

they also have a W700 with ~7 months warranty and an X61 with a ~year warranty.

I just bought an x61 tablet from them, SXGA+ screen and a ~year lenovo warranty. it was cheap. :D the pen came broken, so I asked about it and they're sending me a new one. they respond extremely quickly.

edit: parts lookup says that T61 comes with an XGA screen. :( mine said "WXGA" in the auction but i just looked up the parts.

Seems like a good price if you've got a non-tablet X6x machine.

all have a SXGA+ screen, missing battery/hard drive/AC adapter/caddy and bios is locked so they'll probably sell cheap. these look great if you're looking for an SXGA+ screen or want an extra year warranty. also i'm not the seller. just like seeing how much an X61 tablet with an SXGA+ screen will sell for.

Originally I was going to post on the Thinkpad New/Comments section but I saw this and decided to not make my own thread so here It goes:

Hi guys, this year I've been bad and been getting Thinkpads & misc. laptops here and there and I was wondering if it would be good if I just flip em.
But there are things I am unsure of, as some parts I wouldn't be able to test them currently (like a monitor or keyboard from a laptop w/ dead mobo)
I would presume I should just sell them the part untested on ebay, but I wouldn't know if it would work or not. I presume I could just sell it "for recycling" or "untested" but I am not sure if it is fine to risk a bad review.

I aquired a bad T60p for $28, thing won't boot the HDD, so i presume the mobo is bad. I could sell the monitor lid and Ram, possibly the CPU and fan, I'm hoping to make at least $40 out of it, but I am not too sure of it, I got a basic rundown of the fees so 10% would be knocked out of it what it ends up selling for.
Same thing with an A20M, it just needed some parts but it seems to be working fine on WinXP just too big and old for me (blame youtube for that). Most of it works, I do want to sell it as a a whole working laptop then just part it out. I'm guessing 40 bucks w/o shipping, but I wouldn't know. Screen is dim... but CD drive and floppy work fine as they were pulled from a T20.

Ah and I'd like to know what a 380Z could fetch for, but I think I would sell that to someone here on the forums, seems to work fine, just need to figure out the video driver issue as it doens't have a full screen in the OS but it does in bios...

Picked it up for 30 bucks at a pawn shop, posted it on the legacy forums. I'm hoping to sell it for 60 w/ the bag and charger.

IBM NetVista

#162 Post by thomase13 » Fri Feb 14, 2014 5:16 pm

Hi,

I know this is not ThinkPad or ThinkCentre related, but it's IBM at least!
I am considering buying this lovely IBM NetVista, to be my new desktop computer!
I am replacing just about everything inside with better stuff (except for the floppy diskette drive), and so I've picked this case because I love the design, and it's the right age that it's a normal form factor! No IBM proprietary insanity!!!
I was offered it for a discount of $60 with some unimportant components removed (motherboard, RAM, hard drive and CD drive), and the shipping is $60.
It's a lot of money to spend on a case, especially since it's not in perfect shape — it's a bit scratched — but I don't really have another option that I know of.
I have some IBM ThinkCentres at home that I got for free, but they're all completely proprietary. The motherboard, the PCI slots are backwards, upside down and sideways, even the floppy drive is nonstandard, so they are useless to me.

Does anyone have a better solution (or one of these NetVistas for less than $137?)

Thanks,
Thomas

I tried to snipe a powerful laptop on eBay from seller "tech - trading" (real name is without the spaces before and after the - character).
Their eBay shop name is "Tech Trade Partners"
My snipe was higher than what the winner paid in the end, so technically, I should have won this!
EXCEPT this seller has me on his blacklist for whatever unknown reason.
I have never dealt with them before and my feedback on eBay is 100% positive.
Despite phoning them several times (since I cannot even send them an eBay message...), they did never bother to call me back.

WARNING: do not buy from eBay seller "tech - trading" who has such a bad attitude!

I've had a few days where you can buy an ebay $100 gift code straight from paypal for $95. You don't get any ebay points for this but if you haven't sign up for ebay bucks and promotion as it's 2% rebate and sometimes there is 5x promotion which is a 10% rebate.

If you also have a paypal mastercard you get 2x points on ebay purchases which I think is maybe 3%. Last year I bought a latitude e7440 for $700. I got 5x ebay points which got me like $70 plus paypal points on my paypal card. Oct-December I have a few discover cards which I used instead as you get 5% on online purchases which using paypal qualifies so you can get up to 15% off a nice laptop.

good NOS six and nine cell α60 batteries, $10 plus shipping

#167 Post by automobus » Sat Sep 03, 2016 12:10 am

Someone in my sphere of influence wanted a replacement battery for eir R60F, asked me what to get. So I picked what looked like most trustworthy item in fleaBay, and ey bought two batteries. It was a good pick! Some members here favour Panasonic cells. Maybe Panasonics are more stable than SANYO stored: long term, full state of charge. These Sanyo batteries were stored seven years long, empty state of charge, and they aged very well.

eBay user ID elysseinteriors
eBay item 222209406836
We got two, four remain. Seller has also 6 cell batteries.
Ships from Fairfax County VA.

information from that Lenovo ThinkBatteryVantage Windows software
Design capacity 82.24 Wh, manufacture name SANYO, programmed serial number matches label. One manufacture date 2009-07-29, other 2009-08-01. Both started as brand new, not even zero cycles, took a few second to burn "first use" date (2016-08) into ROM before software would display battery information. One of them was cycled three times, other cycled eight times, both estimate full charge capacity between eighty-six and eighty-seven watt hour. That is in excess of nominal design capacity.

NOS six cell α60 and X40 batteries, $10 plus shipping

#169 Post by automobus » Sat Sep 03, 2016 9:04 am

I did not know, my recommendation carried so much weight! Just kidding.

elysseinteriors has also NOS ThinkPad X40 Series 8 Cell Li-Ion Battery and ThinkPad X60 Series 8 Cell High Capacity Battery, listed at same price $10 plus shipping.

I think, this deal is very hard to beat. Any of you ThinkPadders holding a α60 (or α#00) or X40 should consider. Even I am tempted to buy one battery, and I do not have a relevant ThinkPad to use it. (My reason: I find X40 one of best laptops ever made. In my imagination, X40 "out-airs" MacBook Air. I had my hands on two, never acquired my own. I am tempted to stash a battery, which after some time, will then "force" me to get a X40.)

There is a certain crowd of people *cough*vapers*cough* who tear-apart laptop battery packs just for cells, then discard the rest. Even such a person, who never has and never will touch a ThinkPad, might find this a good deal.

I've filtered through the posts in this thread [which is a good idea]. Unfortunately most of the links to positive sellers are dead. If anyone can suggest a reliable seller of W530 keyboards (backlight preferred) I would greatly appreciate it. US domestic shipping is needed. Any help is appreciated.

dr,
I sent out many emails to Lenovo Service. I was surprised how many were rejected, as if the list weren't updated frequently. I'll see what I can find out. I was hoping for ebay sales but just can't find any sellers that are 'guaranteed' reputable. Thanks for the suggestion.

@trefall: As with any eBay sale, you'll have to rely upon some digging on your part to find a 'reliable ' seller. Here's a short list that I've used for the last 15 years:

- Avoid items with 'no return accepted' or described as 'as-is' or 'for parts', unless you are prepared to throw away your money.
- Make sure that there are plenty of photos of the item and/or descriptive language showing/telling you what you are buying. Know when you are looking at "stock" photos as the seller may be attempting to hide something. Either that, they are too lazy to take a picture and post it with the auction.
- I tend to favor individual / personal sellers whenever possible, rather than corporate warehouses churning through inventory as they can be a better (read: cheaper) deal.
- Check to see if they offer a money-back guarantee. 10-14 days is usual; you can find some that go up to 30 days. Return postage is always your cost to pay.
- If at all possible, buy from a seller in your own country. Seeing as you are in Mexico, that might limit your choices. In that case, you'll probably be dealing with US sellers.
- All things being equal, go with a seller that has a high number of feedbacks AND has a fairly high ranking (>97%).
- Take some time to go through the seller's feedback profile and look for instances where the seller has left his own 'rebuttal' to a negative or neutral report. To do this easily, use this tool: http://toolhaus.org/ Use the "Negative/Neutral Feedback" section, enter the seller's eBay ID in the box and click the "Received by" button.
- Pay attention to the buyer's language / experience and see HOW the seller has replied. Avoid sellers that have left remarks insinuating something negative about the mental capacity or parental heritage of the buyer.

I see that you have already posted a WTB here in the Marketplace. Dealing with sellers here on the forum is typically more reliable that what you may find on eBay but I must say that there have been a few negative experiences here as well.

Im living in canada so the problem with me buying on this forum is that i typically face twice as much shipping comparing that as of eBay for some reason. The people in this forum are typically more professional than eBay sellers though. I typically dont care about no returns accepted as the seller will not receive the money until eBay knew for sure that you are satisfied with your purchase. As for as-is and for parts items, you don't necessarily have to avoid it but you do need to put more attention to the details

Also i remebered buying T42 and T43 on eBay and went for local pickup afterwards. All of which were 8.5/10 condition and i paid $180 for the two of them two years ago and i felt like worth it and paid the price of picking them up on a snowstorm day... Until now I realize that i should have gone for one T43p as I have paid another $150 for fully upgrading the T43 and at least half of that went into Canada Post's hands...

Ray, kfzhu,
Thanks for the replies. I may have a cousin coming down in a month so I'm looking in the US primarily. I talked to one of the only Mexican Lenovo Service Depots on Friday. I gave him the part numbers. His answer -
"Just use a generic external keyboard."
My answer -
"It's a laptop and carrying around another keyboard kinda defeats the purpose."
He hasn't responded since. :D

As far as 'resellers' I found a guy on ebay in AZ with free shipping in US. That'll save me some $. I've heard late model W530 keyboards got 'soft' pressure. Any ideas as to which keyboard part numbers still have the traditional firm key pressure? I type a lot. that's why I appreciate Thinkpad keyboards. The HP I received as a gift 7 yrs ago had lost the key labels within 6wks of use. I've been saving to get another Thinkpad ever since.
Thanks for the replies as always.

Since lenovo took over ThinkPad it is more dominated in China at local stores
Also Best Buy is for home appliances, not office appliances. And Best Buy scams you pretty well as well, at least that's what happens in the famous Eaton Centre in downtown Toronto. Some employees are so stupid that they can call an ASUS gaming laptop an Alienware. And they force you to buy their warranty until you call out their manager...

Lenovo Thinkpads are still not bad if you stick with their classic T, X, or R series or their own W series that rebuilt A and G series. Others i would not recommend. I remembered four years ago i only had ¥6000 (around 1600 USD) and i had three choices:
1. E530 with i5 and 4gb RAM + ¥2000 spare for some upgrades.
2. T530i with Pentium Dual-Core and 4GB RAM + ¥1000 spare
3. T530i (Turned out it also has Nvidia NVS 5400M) with I3 and 2GB RAM
My dad kinda urged me for the first choice but I simply disagreed to him over and over again as i do feel like using a E series is more awkward than T series as I need the premium feeling, not a budget laptop that loses the classics. I ende up with the third option but since I don't know much about computers back then I was stuck with 64BIT WINDOWS 7 ON 2GB RAM AND IT RAN SLOWER THAN MY PREVIOUS T43! After a few months I can no longer withstand that so I installed Windows 8 x86 instead and it was a breeze... Later I tried 8.1 as well. And then I had this homestay I really hated so I actually stole 4GB DDR3 OUT OF HER 8GB AND SHE DIDN'T KNOW IT HAPPENED. Then I tried Windows 10 previews. At that time I'm expierenced enough to do something with T43, so I bought Pentium M 780 and 2 DDR2 sticks and put the same build in and it worked fine! Actually much better than the XP I bloated and did not debloat. After some time I felt more and more guilty for the stick I stole so I returned it one day before she left and bought 16gb instead and then put X64. So now my T43 and T530i are both usable and both have the latest build with T43 in x86 and T530i with x64.

Someone has a 755CV posted on eBay in Canada.
Postage is a bit much for me,I am thinking about it, but I might as well let you all take a look.
I bought it.

eBay link

Looks like they don't have an adapter for it, but I don't know if any 755C mobo can work on that thing if it doesn't boot.

How about taking a chance on a T440P? I can get one with a 30 min shutdown error (most likely needs a new mainboard) or one that's missing alot if parts as the listing says... don't know any more about it..... I'd sell my T440s first to buy a T440p but I'm not able to live in the transitional period of not having an T440 s/p
