Office Outlook 2007 encoding problem

#1 Post by Marin85 » Thu Mar 19, 2009 1:27 pm

Hi,
I have M$ Office Outlook 2007 installed. Today I received an email from a friend of mine that is supposedly written in Russian, but all I read there is gibberish (mostly question marks). Usually I don´t have any issues with reading emails written in some cyrillic encoding, but this one seems to use some different cyrillic encoding that I am not able to "decode". My problem is that I could not find any setting in Outlook 2007 referring to the encoding of incoming mails (there are such settings for the outgoing mails though, but they don´t help much) :? Google wasn´t much of help either. Any ideas are greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance,

Marin

Marin,
All I can find is Language Settings and available editing choices. :?

Open the email in all its glory (i.e. a separated window), then, Other Actions (7th button from left on my box) => Encoding.

The interface of Office 2007 has changed quite drastically indeed.

Loyukfai,
How clever of you to notice that.

Thanks for the great advice! I think would have never found out where these settings are placed :)

Update: I tried out lots of different encoding types (beyond the cyrillic ones), but no one seems to work. Since it´s an email account at yahoo, I checked out my email on their site, and "surprisingly" the email in question is displayed correctly. I wonder what might have gone wrong with Outlook 2007... I may try reinstalling M$ Office later today.

Cheers,

Marin
