As many IBM users should know, back in 2003, a recall was launched for IBM G51 monitors made between July of 1997 and December 1998. The troubled monitors would overheat, sometimes smoke, sometimes crackle and in a few cases cause property damage from fire. Well, I have a G52 made in May of 1997 that is not only a similar model and made only two months before the affected dates, but has the same problems. The monitor started overheating and losing picture stability while heating up nicely and it would also make crackling noises and smoke. Well, a few minutes ago, I talked to IBM support, which I do have to say was impressing by one, they automatically forwarded me to support in my city (Atlanta) and second within a reasonable amount of time, two, they spoke English (unlike Dell support) and third, they are still open for calls right now (it's 11:30pm). Unfortunatly, all they could do was tell me the number of IBM's repair center which I'll have to wait untill tomorow to talk to (they are not 24/7), but hopefully I can get somewhere with my monitor.
Does anyone else on this forum own a G52 (Type 6546)? If so, have you talked to support after hearing about the G51 recall and why the recal was happening? If so, have you made any progress?
