Sony Netbook to complement my X300?

#1 Post by jamess » Sun Mar 22, 2009 3:46 pm

I am thinking of buying a netbook. I need it only occasionally, going somewhere weight is of utmost importance - mountains that is. I have solar setup to charge any netbook/notebook and excellent 3G signal.

What I searched and found is Sony P series. What do you think of it? I am thinking of doing clean vista install. I've seen what a difference it makes on X300 (without all the preloaded bloatware and too many thinkvantage programs running and I am sure the Sony P would be great too).

I'd be happy to see something similar by design/lightness by Thinkpad but that probably won't happen. Any other makes/models of netbooks with WWAN integrated that you would propose that i should look into?

Thanks a lot!

I don't see how a netbook can complement an X300, which is already a small, thin and light laptop. You'll save, what, 400 grams of weight?

Well it's much smaller and even 400 g count when you carry that on your back climbing. And it does make a huge difference in my backpack regarding size/volume. And it's a nice looking toy for playing. I don't need it for serious work, i have x300 for that. It's just enough for blogging, web surfing and email. Should be ok for that?

I have a Lenovo IdeaPad S10 Netbook just for fun, and it's a terrific machine for a fraction of the price of a Sony VAIO P Netbook. Since you taking it outdoors if it gets damaged you not lost as much money as you would have on a Sony. I have a friend with the Sony and it's rather fragile compared to the IdeaPad. Like always its a matter of personal preference.
