A lot of people all around the world visit the BBC website. The BBC home page is: http://www.bbc.co.uk/

It contains no advertising, is not linked to any government, nor any commercial organisation (because it is funded by the TV licence payers in the UK), and covers just about every subject you can imagine.

The only limitation if you live outside the UK is that the TV clips may not be viewable. This is because of the rules of the BBC Charter which limits its TV broadcasting to the UK. (No doubt there are ways to get round this but I am not clever enough to advise.)

A good place to start is http://www.iGoogle.com. Register with Google, then "Add Stuff" to include what interests you.

I could but they're likely all blocked by the Chinese government ;)

BBC website unblocked in China since March 2008. :D Link: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/asia-p ... 312240.stm

English language pages on the BBC are fully accessible in China. Items in Chinese language may still be impossible to access. Please let us know if that is the case.

I didn't mean to suggest that there's anything wrong with the BBC or that it's blocked in China. Actually I like the Beeb so much that it's the first item on my iGoogle News page, ahead of the CBC and even the NY Times ;)

Sorry if I implied I was upset by your posting, Hausman. Quite the reverse ... or should I say, on the contrary?

Your posting was positive in pointing out that the Chinese government has restricted many sites. All I wanted to do was point out, and celebrate, the fact that "Auntie" has been released from intervention by the state.

I am pleased to know you are a frequent user. It is an amazing site and free from any of the usual nonsense of either trying to sell or indoctrinate. It is what the web should be about ... just like this forum.

Misunderstandings occur. I am sure we all mean well. :)

Since my most favorite sites are Croatian, here are some interesting (to me) english-written (just for fun) sites:
