recommendations for server backup software

#1 Post by spuddog » Tue Mar 31, 2009 9:29 pm

Hey, I friend was having trouble with the OS partition on thier server (win2003). Before we started thought we would back it up. none of my backup programs will work with a server (norton ghost 9.0 and acronis home 8.0).
I normally use Acronis so I recommended it, till we looked at the price $609.00 for one license. Does anyone have any suggestions for an easy to use program, that doesn't cost an arm and a leg. I like Acronis, but to jump from 49.00 for home and 89.00 for pro to 609.00 for server is a little extreme.

Thanks for any opinions
Scott

Sorry, I can´t give you an answer to your question, but to be honest I doubt that one could find anything suitable for this purpose. The problem is that even freeware is not anymore free when it´s meant to be installed on Server OS, and the reason for this is that Server OSes are considered to be for commercial use only, hence freeware editions of antivirus, backup, networking etc software cannot be installed on (windows) Server OS and have server/commercial editions that are, as you have already found out, priced accordingly... I´m looking myself for backup freeware that would install on (windows) Server OS.

Cheers,

Marin
