Hat rack or Umbrella rack?
How about an ugly Bowling Pin?
Or a decorative topper to a bottle of Irish Whiskey?

It's hard to tell the exact shape from the image, but it looks like it could mount onto a wall.

Geez, a mystery post as soon as we let you back into OT, huh? :)

I would guess that it's some sort of decanter... made up in the image of some general.

It measures ca. 6-1/2" high and ca. 4-1/2" wide at the bottom (shoulder width if you like  ).

Must be a decorative stopper for some sort of wide mouth Whiskey bottle or decanter.

BTW, I was trying to follow the issue with RBS and Off-Topic forum but couldn't just sit and keep refreshing, had to go. Now I don't see the second forum nor the threads where you discussed this. Can somebody write a quick summary? I guess we're in the new forum now because according to my browser's cache, the old one didn't have a dash in the name. Thanks.

I'm here at LAX Airport waiting for my flight, and viewing this image on the Hi-Res display of my BlackBerry Bold. Even on this small screen it's simply magnificent, whatever it is. So full of character.
.
Kudos for the great picture!
.
I'm eager to read what it is....

Cheers,

I was on the phone with Ray for about 45 minutes, while he loaded the contents of the old OT forum part by part into the new one. By process of elimination we eventually found the single(!) thread (posted by AlphaKilo470 on 03/27/09) that caused my problem.
I had not even posted in that thread, but it somehow created havoc!
Once the reloaded forum was fully up and running again (minus AK47's thread), all the test-posts were deleted.
An absolutely excellent service from our Forum Staff!

Thanks, I took the picture myself, using an old Nikon Coolpix 3100.
Here is a close-up of the head: http://img.auctiva.com/imgdata/6/8/0/0/ ... 5827_o.jpg

I got this little beauty at a local auction last week.
Now think of this thing turned upside down.
Here is a view from the rear: http://img.auctiva.com/imgdata/6/8/0/0/ ... 5861_o.jpg

Just give it a few more guesses. I'll tell you later today!
So far nobody is even close!

Bingo!
It's a claw foot from a 19th century cast-iron bath tub.
The one foot weighs over 2 Lbs.!
I shouldn't have shown the picture of the back :(

Yeh, the back view gave it away. Although most of the younger members probably haven't seen a claw foot tub anyway.

Thanks for the write up. It's indeed strange. Probably some minor damage to the DB and something in your profile together caused the phpBB to fail, issue wrong SQL queries or whatever. Luckily you can enjoy the Off-Topic forum now so the cause doesn't really matter anymore :D. Welcome back!

@RBS: No, I'm not a cockney ... just fascinated by variations of our very rich language. It is sometimes much more fun to use rhyming slang instead of the actual word; for example, if one is having trouble with one's Marleys.

Aha. That explains the wear I was wondering about on top his bald head. At first, seeing the military ribbons, I thought it was missing its officer's cap (of course, this was before I knew it was upside down).

As it happens, I'll be vacationing in Vermont in two weeks in a house with a claw-footed tub, but nothing like this on it!

I am pretty sure the foot was painted after being removed from the bathtub to make it into a work of art by itself.

I doubt if the bathtub had all four feet painted as such when it was being used as a bathtub. If that were true, the man would be standing on his head!
