Computer Desk Chair...Any Recommendations? Aeron, Leap, etc.

#1 Post by nowstime » Thu May 14, 2009 1:15 am

Hi!

I'm in the market for a desk chair and need some input...There is too many choices...

So far I have tried the following chairs at local stores:

1. Aeron --> THE CHAIR: I loved the look and the support of the chair. Retails $879 + tax but used are in the range of $400~600.

2. Leap --> Heard so many good things about it but when I tried it it felt average and the material felt cheap. $799 plus Tax.

3. Humanscale Liberity --> Nice built quality but I didn't like the base sliding as I reclined.

4. Herman Miller Miira --> Felt like a cheaper version of the Aeron. Around $800.

5. Herman Miller Celle --> After trying the Aeron the overall impression is a cheap Aeron but suprisingly it provided the best overall support.

6. Herman Miller Embody --> The latest Herman Miller chair that they named the successor of Aeron --> Too expensive. $1400.

My questions are...

1. Any input from users in this forum who have experience with these chairs? A long term use report...

2. Any other chairs I should check out..

I searched this forum and others for reviews but they are all outdated...I know these chairs came out a while ago but any fresh input will be appreciated.

And please, lets don't argue about the price...I know these chairs are expensive but I'm buying a chair to use at least for 10 years...it's an investment for me...

If you have personally tested all of these chairs out yourself then you are your best judge. However I can tell you I am not a fan of the Aeron style chairs. I like to have a real cushion under my seat. Also the Aeron style can be cold, that might be a good thing if your office is normally quite warm. The other bad thing about Aeron style chairs is that you can...uh.. smell things easier if you know what I mean.
