Promote ThinkPad!

#1 Post by IBMlenovo123 » Thu May 21, 2009 5:05 am

have u ever felt obligated to promote ThinkPad as a brand that common people don't know that it's there? I would like you to post a "Item Wanted" ad in your local craigslist.org.

so far I have newyork.craigslist.org

anyone else? Please list your local craigslist site.

oops! with this post, I got myself into "fresh member" rank!

I don't mean to be inflammatory here, but that seems to flagrantly violate CraigsList's terms of service.

Most categories on CraigsList are intended for private, local transactions.

I spend a lot of time flagging the infestation of commercial advertising on my local CraigsList.

I might have felt obliged ... but never obligated.

Who invents these words? :?

Oblige: 1250–1300; ME obligen < OF obligier < L obligāre to bind.
Obligate: 1400–50; late ME obligat (adj.) < L obligātus (ptp. of obligāre to bind)

So, in this case, some Latin dudes :) .

I too, do not see any benefits for doing this. In fact, it could even cause someone of a dubious nature to go out looking for that particular item you are looking for and through illegal means, "obtain" one for you. There's better ways to "promote" Thinkpads.

Ray, Thank you for providing the etymology. However, 'obliged' may be associated with feelings, whereas 'obligated' means that one is under an obligation ... an obligation either exists, or it does not exist.

I feel obliged to point this out ... but I am not obligated.

A subtle difference but very important to pedants like me. :wink: :lol:

I'll be happy to start promoting ThinkPads once again, like I've been doing for years, once Lenovo gets its ducks in a row, namely:

a) Restore the quality of depot-assigned repairs to IBM standards of yesteryear

b) Start offering decent LCDs on laptops again

Until then, I'm sorry, no. I wouldn't feel true to myself promoting ThinkPads in their current shape and form.

Same here. I heavily promoted Thinkpads shortly after Lenovo took over. That was the heyday for the Thinkpads:

1) The build quality of the R- and T-series was drastically improved over the previous generation;
2) Flexview screens were still available;
3) Even the TN screens were still tolerable;
4) Both 4:3 and widescreens were available;
5) Most models were still aesthetically pleasing;
6) Based on what I heard, customer service was still decent (though I couldn't tell from personal experience, because I never needed any service);
7) Most other brands were still far behind the Thinkpads in terms of build quality and options;
8 ) Thinkpads became much more affordable, thanks to Lenovo's aggressive attempt to increase sales.

Almost all of the above have changed since then, especially #7. These days, I am promoting HP and Dell instead.
Microsoft Surface 3 (Atom x7-Z8700 / 4GB / 128GB / LTE)
Dell OptiPlex 9010 SFF (Core i3-3220 / 8GB / 8TB); HP 8300 Elite minitower (Core i7-3770 / 16GB / 9.25TB)
Acer T272HUL; Crossover 404K; Dell 3008WFP, U2715H, U2711, P2416D; Monoprice 10734; QNIX QHD2410R; Seiki Pro SM40UNP

I'm already promoting ThinkPads, and Lenovo for that matter. That's all that I'm ever going to use, Lenovo. (I'm a "Lenovo Ambassador").
ThinkPads: R51 (1836HAU), T41 (23737FU), 600 (264551U), T60 (2008VRQ), T500 (224255U)

I Love (all) ThinkPads...ThinkPad forever!

I post "Want to Buy" ads on Craigslist all the time, but it is for broken laptops, indicating that I specialize in Thinkpads, but am open to anything...
