Wireless networking nightmare
Wireless networking nightmare
For the last 10 years I have been using a belkin wireless G router, which worked ok. For some reason recently it had been dropping connection intermittantly so I decided to "upgrade". Went down to best buyand bought a netgear rangemax router. It claimed 10x the range and 10x the speed of standard G. Hooked it up and after 1 week not only could I not connect to my printer through the print server my connection to my wireless laptops were not even as good as with standard G. I did purchase the rangemax card for the laptop but to no avail. Returned the netgear router and got a belkin N1+ router and laptop card. Hooked up the router but when I plugged it in got nothing. Dead right out of the box. returned to the store and exchangd it for another belkin same model. Brought it home hooked it up and walla, dead right out of the box. customer support was as lousy as ever. Not mohhamed's fault, how can we expect him to speak english. Since I have no time or desire to learn to speak Arabic I boxed up the new router and hooked my old router back up. After I return the router for a refund I will be right back to where I was last week. Does IBM make wireless routers?

Re: Wireless networking nightmare
many of us seem to prefer linksys routers: such as
wrt54g v.1-4, wrt54gl, wrt54gs or the dual-band
wrt55ag: work OK with stock firmware, better with
tomato or DD-WRT
> does IBM make wireless routers?
at one time: fru 22P6409 model DR-E220W 802.11b
wireless router w/ 4-port switch

but the linksys models work better

the way up and the way down are the same (heraclitus)
Re: Wireless networking nightmare
Belkin still make good routers. LinkSys are decent. Some newer LinkSys will not pass VPN packets (if you need that) so be cautious about that. Otherwise, LinkSys are good. ... JDH

Re: Wireless networking nightmare
I recently got an ASUS WL-520GU wifi-router: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 20wl-520gu
to go with my new 5MB cable internet.
It replaces the crappy Verizon-supplied Westell 327W (it was with the greatest of pleasure that I could finally throw Verizon OUT!).
That Asus is an excellent piece of equipment, which also includes a USB 2.0 print server. Very recommendable!
