H1N1 related.

Hi,

Not sure how is the controle of H1N1 in USA.
In India perticularly in the city where I live H1N1 grown like nothing & our government declared as worste affected H1N1 city in India. So far 25 deaths and many infected people but also 700+ infected patients were sent back to home after 100% recovery from H1N1.

Any1 want to share/info from your city/Proviance/country about H1N1?
It's yet not iliminated unfortunattly and yet we dont have any solution on it.
Some swiss company called "Roche" started manufacturing "Tamiflu" tablets but according to scientists those tablets are harmful for health and can only be given to H1N1 infected patient in worste stages.

I hope this discussion isnt "too" off topic.

It's a serious & hot topic in some Asian countries & I read also in south america.

Cases of Swine Flu are falling in the UK. They seemed to peak at the end of July.

It might sound old-fashioned but, IMO, the biggest cause of the spread of the disease is air travel. It takes the virus to distant places in a short time. If people still travelled long distances by ship or camel then they would be non-contagious by the time they arrived at their destination.

So I guess we have to live with these pandemics if we insist on getting to places quickly.

it has been reported that the time to be concerned, at least in the USA, is during the normal flu season..
which begins in the fall and goes through the winter..

my wife is a nurse so she will be imunized with whatever vaccine is available..
i'm not sure they will immunize immediate family members (me)..

Indeed flu season peaks in fall/winter because viruses spread in cold weather much more easily than in warm conditions. I imagine the entire northern hemisphere will see an uptick then, whether the UK Europe or over here.

Looks like this vaccine is being rushed into use. In the past, rushed vaccines and "cures" have sometimes proven to be worse than the disease.

That said, WHO reported on Friday that a more deadly variant or something has just emerged throughout the southern hemisphere that goes straight to the lungs. Saw it on a yahoo page, but maybe that was there to get eyeballs and hits.

The good news is that H1N1 is spread by contact rather than through the air. Those surgical masks you see all around Asia are a useless defense. Better to be a hermit

So, if someone sneezes near you, and they have swine flu (or any flu) you are safe? Detailed source please? The reason I ask is that we are all being told to sneeze into a handkerchief and cough up one's trouser leg to avoid spreading flu. Maybe you know better, in which case I shall return to sneezing like there is no tomorrow.

I believe that was on abc evening news before. Sneezing without covering up can potentially make contact if someone else is around you, right?.. I'll leave the gross details to your imagination.
