Exactly why I told my wife the other day, "DO NOT UPGRADE YOUR IPHONE!!" Fortunately, she's not the kind of woman who will just go ahead and do it anyway.

Re: Beware - iPhone OS 3.1 kills tethering and unlock
I don't have an iPhone but some of my friends do. Been chatting with some coming from Poland when I read this. They say that tethering works without problems on 3.1. Could this be an AT&T issue only then?

Just curious: How many of you iPhone users jailbroke your phone to do things like tethering, video, etc? If so, are you still on AT&T?
(I've been debating doing it since I got the 3G, a year ago now.)

i have not unlocked or jailbreak'ed my iphone 3G..
in fact, i wonder sometimes why i ever got an iphone..
all i use it for is, well, a telephone and address book..
it DOES have some nice features but nothing i could not get on my old motorola razr..
this is not to say i won't do more with it in the future..
note that i don't drive much more than 300 miles in a normal month..

Re: Beware - iPhone OS 3.1 kills tethering and unlock
I like the phone enough. What I have trouble justifying is whether I like it more than the $100 a month AT&T charges me to use it. I use the GPS feature a lot; I do plenty of mobile banking, use the calendar, check movie times, settle friendly disputes with quick Google searches, check the subway maps, play some games ... But is that worth $100 every four weeks? Every month it feels less so ... What pains me the most, though, is its not a very good cell phone. This has been widely reported and I find it to be true. The volume isn't very loud, it drops calls, thanks to AT&T I have dead spots even in Manhattan -- @ $100 a month?BillMorrow wrote:i have not unlocked or jailbreak'ed my iphone 3G..

Has there ever been an Iphone OS software upgrade that didn't disable jailbreak fixes?RealBlackStuff wrote:Beware - iPhone OS 3.1 kills tethering and unlock!!!

Technically 3.0.1 didn't cause any Jailbreak issues, but it was only a bugfix version. All major revisions seem to kill Jailbreak options.qviri wrote:Has there ever been an Iphone OS software upgrade that didn't disable jailbreak fixes?
I've missed out on some $$$ this week because several people have wanted their Iphone unlocked but already updated to 3.1. Sucks.
It is, and will continue to be, a cat and mouse game between Apple and the Dev Team.
Jailbreaking will come soon for 3.1 I'm sure, as it always comes quickly. The unlock is another story.
Cell phones are my specialty. Got questions? Ask away.
Re: Beware - iPhone OS 3.1 kills tethering and unlock
I jailbroke my iPhone cause I didn't want to pay $70 a month to AT&T for internet service I'd hardly ever use. The two places I would mainly use my phone for internet, home and work, already have free WiFi. Since I live in a rural area, 3G isn't even offered.

Re: Beware - iPhone OS 3.1 kills tethering and unlock
The new iPhone OS 3.x fully supports tethering. AT&T, however, does not allow this service yet as they have not figured out the best way to price gouge their customers.yak wrote:I don't have an iPhone but some of my friends do.
