Re: You know you're a die-hard Thinkpad addict when...
I thought I was. A Thinkpad addict that is. I've got about ten of 'em. So working, some not, and some it pieces. But, no batteries, or any other parts for that matter, in the fridge.
Do you....?
Do you....?

Don't mistake a Thinkpad LiIon battery for a frozen steak and attempt to fry it up on the stove or throw it on the BBQ. They taste real bad when you do that
.

Only three??? I don't think that qualifies as an addict yet (see .sig below)emeraldgirl08 wrote:I have three Thinkpads.... <snip>

Re: You know you're a die-hard Thinkpad addict when...
I have a dozen vintage thinkpads (4 or so working batteries with more coming), but I don't consider myself an addict just a collector.
Would never store a battery in the fridge either, I cycle through the collection and recharge batteries as needed untill they die.

you see someone with a thinkpad and feel obliged to start a conversation.
you see someone with a dell or hp and you quickly look the other direction.

Re: You know you're a die-hard Thinkpad addict when...
You see a girl with a Thinkpad at a coffee shop, and you notice that the laptop is a T500 before you notice the girl's face.
You then proceed to stare at the laptop for 2 seconds and only when the girl looks up at you, you realize that you know her.
Then when she asks if you remember her, you say that you do, and you also remember that she bought the laptop on your recommendation.
The first thing you ask her is how she likes her Thinkpad.

Bill, do you remember how long ago - what year - I bought my first thinkpad? Has to be in the early 90s . . . . guess I qualify!

I've never considered myself and addict, but I would consider myself an ambassador. I recommend Thinkpads to all of Windows using people when a Mac won't fit their needs.

Conversely, you can also be considered an addict if you stubbornly hold on to your old Thinkpads even though they are no longer powerful enough for you. For me, this would be my 240Z (500MHz PIII and 256MB PC100 RAM, and running WinXP with SP3).Harryc wrote:...you plan to get the latest model Thinkpad even though the last model you bought 6 months ago still looks and runs like new, and was way overkill for your needs to begin with .

Maybe not die hard, but a fan when you think you see one in a film, and rewind-freeze frame to try and identify which one it is.

...when you can completely disassemble and reassemble a particular model ThinkPad without consulting a Hardware Maintenance Manual or even a pause in your work or a mistake - and with no left over parts. I suppose there were earlier indications, but that's certainly a confirmation. I can practically tear down and rebuild a T4x or R5x machine blindfolded.

I have only one Thinkpad but sometimes I feel like an addict. I am a heavy user and I spent hours and hours on my Thinkpad. So I am maybe not one of the really bad addicts but I would consider myself an advanced beginner
