Installing Windows NT Workstation 4.0 on a WorkPad Z50 may not be possible, but my CD does have the MIPS R4x00 version, as well as intel, PowerPC, and something called "Alpha".
If I can get it to work, what software is available? I have a lot of NT 4 compatible software (SmartSuite, Office, Works Suite), but as usual it's all for intel. Did MicroSoft even sell home/personal or office software for non-intel versions of Windows?
NT4 software for MIPS 4x00
Re: NT4 software for MIPS 4x00
Alpha was the processor used by DEC (Digital Equipment Corporation).
They were good machines but expensive as hell back then.
As far as I can tell, MS didn't make a whole lot of applications for non x86 platforms.
A lot of other companies did, however.
If you want to dabble in vintage computing, try ebay.
My favorite vintage system is SGI. I have an Indy, an O2, and a Fuel all running Irix 6.5.30.
I got them all off ebay.
They were amazing machines for their day.

Re: NT4 software for MIPS 4x00
I had a dual 533MHz Alpha Box back in the day.
Man that was one sweet system. I ran NT4.0 Workstation on it and was able to run a lot of programs written for x86 architecture using FX!32 binary translation.
Thanks for brining up some good memories.
