source for mini-usb plugs?

#1 Post by alfio » Mon Nov 02, 2009 2:52 pm

hello all

rather than buy ready made ones that don't suit my purposes, i want to make a few adapters for my phone (google G-1) and i'm having trouble locating a supplied for male and female mini-usb plugs that i can then use to solder my cabling set up into. any ideas? radio shack used to sell stuff like this 'back in the day' as my students say but i'm not sure where to look now. thanks

alfio,

I had purchased those plugs without problems in local electronic parts stores here in my city (and country). I think that the RadioShack would be the best place to start (or anykind of place that sells electronic parts). Also, have you tried eBay ? I saw a couple of these in sale, but they would have to be shiped from Hong Kong or Mainland China (ouch...). Also why not try to modify an egsiting cable (i.e. cut it in half and patch it with a good-grade shielded cable) ? Or buy an USB extender/dongle ?

Digikey has them for sure, but it might be cheaper to just order some cables off ebay/craigslist and hack them up.

Dollar stores are a good source of cables for hacking them up. They carry the most common types like A to B or A to mini-B.
