My cool boot up sounds!! (video Link)

#1 Post by A31 » Tue Dec 22, 2009 2:33 pm

Hey guys!!
For a while I had these really cool start up/shut down sounds on XP on my A31, however due to HDD enlargement last night, I had to reinstall XP so sadly the sounds had to go!! :|
But luckily, I took a video of it, so here is the link!!!

How I did it!
1. Get some really cool music, prefably around 5-20 seconds long and insert into Movie Maker.
2. Cut the music file down on Movie Maker until I reached the bit I wanted.
3. Save the project, then save as movie file
4. This saves the in .wma format. That's no good for start up/shut down sounds on XP so I downloaded a .wmv file to .wav file converter from the internet - used AllMusicConverter, you can get the free trial and that's fine for me!!
5. Convert the files from .wma to .wav and save in a location where you now you can find them easily and you are unlikely to accidently delete them.
6. Now go into control panel, then click sounds and audio devices, then at the top you should see 3 tabs, click the sounds tab.
7. You should get a list of sounds you can have, Windows Exclamation, windows warning etc. Scroll down to exit Windows for the shut down sound and log on windows for the start up sound.
8. There should be a few buttons at the bottom, I think of the top of my head they are test (or something along similar lines, play maybe?) and browse. Click browse and find that .wav file you saved earlier.
9. Restart and have fun!!

As it says in the video, you can do this on Vista and other Windows OS's as well.

For the .wma to the .wav converter, just google "all music converter .wmv to .wav" or something and you'll find it!!
As I said, sadly I now have the ordinary startup sounds as I lost my .wav files when inserting a new drive, was a worthly upgrade though, 17.2 GB to 37 GB!!

This video was once part of a long one but I edited it for the web.
