How many of you use the ThinkPad as your main computer?

Yes, don't have any other computer/laptop, therefore have to.

No, I have another laptop/computer/PC as my main computer. The Thinkpad is just a nice thing to have.

How many of you use your ThinkPad(s) as your "main computer"

#1 Post by A31 » Tue Dec 22, 2009 4:30 pm

...what i mean is how many of you use your thinkpad as your everyday computer/laptop. Personally, I don't use it as the main computer as there was once atime when it might not start up, and I have a thinkcentre which is more powerful than my thinkpad. Just interested to see how many of you use it as the everyday computer...

There should be more options as I have other computers but I use my Thinkpads more often than my desktop.

There were periods of time in my life when a Thinkpad was my main computer (first it was a T42, then a T60). But now I have a pretty powerful desktop, so my Thinkpad is secondary again.

I sue my X41T for 99% of all my computing needs other than World of Warcraft which is the only reason I still have a desktop / tower machine.

I voted 50/50, but in reality, it's probably 80/20... Thinkpad/Desktop respectively. Though, once I can get my hands on a W700, it'll be 100/0 with an increase of overall usage since I'll have a powerful enough machine I can use on the go.

I have access to a desktop PC about 1/3 of the time. I almost always have access to my T42 ThinkPad. Even when I have access to the desktop (it has XP Professional on it), I don't use it much. So yes, my ThinkPad is definitely my main computer.

I also have an old ThinkPad 600E that still works (my first laptop). Trying to find a good OS for it. W2K was pretty good on the 600E, but I want to see if I can get some version of Linux fully operational and reasonably fast working on it. This is just a hobby to play with from time to time. :)

@GomJabbar, off-topic:

Have you tried PC Linux OS, version 2006? I've loved it on both 570E and 600x...

On topic, I haven't owned a desktop computer since 1992...I've used many but owned none and am intent on keeping it that way...

For the casual browsing from my couch I always use one of my thinkpads. Also of course when I'm travelling.

If I need to stay longer doing some writing or checking the internet for a long time, I stick to my quad desktop. A 22" screen is always more comfortable than my 12" TPs...

My 0.02 cents...

I haven't used a desktop regularly since 2004 and I can't say I'm unhappy about that. Ever since I got my first ThinkPad, a T21(which I still have), my desktops have long since been neglected. I'm pretty sure even my X61s is more powerful than my old P4-based desktop.

Right now, I'm probably using my X61s the most out of all my notebooks... it's powerful enough for nearly all of my needs, is extremely portable, and it's a really handy system overall. If I need a larger display I migrate to my T60p, and if I need a lot of power I'll go to my M1730.
