I don't know if this is some advertising strategy, but that sounds pretty impressive...
Hmm...
Lenovo will have tough time if it doesn't come up with something similar...

Really amazing specs though, Win 7 Pro and 6GB RAM!!! Has that ever been done on a laptop before?

Re: Check out specs on new Sony Z series...
The most impressive thing about this laptop is of course the 13.1" 1920x1080 display. At present, the smallest laptop screen with full HD is 15.6" in laptops weighing between 5.5 and 7.5 lb, whereas this Sony Z series will be only 3.15 lb! The pixel density will be extremely high, almost as high as the 15.0" 2048x1536 screen of my T43p. Most people (including me) would experience eye strain, although if you need a very light laptop with lots of real estate on its screen, a little bit of eye strain is worth it. But judging from the prices of current Z-series Vaio laptops, this new Z series is going to be priced at well over $2,000! Sigh, yet another fabulous laptop that I can't afford.

Indeed, display will be (?) something different...that little thing is (will be) pretty powerfull and mobile, I mean i7, RAID 0 w/ 4 SSD's packed in 13.1"/1.5kg...pianowizard wrote:...snip...
I wonder how cooling system will cope with that...
Time will tell, but I will keep an eye on review...
Re: Check out specs on new Sony Z series...
Wow, that resolution is certainly impressive. The RAM is nothing fancy these days -- even a X61 can take 8 GB -- and the quad SSDs are not too difficult to pull off as long as they're not user replaceable. However, putting the whole package -- with an optical drive, too -- into a 13" 3.3 lb box does take a bit of work. Sony isn't new to this kind of feats, of course, and the machine will go for well over $3000...
I wonder about battery capacity and life.

And is that NVIDIA+Intel graphics the kind of switchable graphics? Switchable graphics hasn´t died out with Windows 7, right?

Don't think so... but for Win 7 you need a good graphics card as the Aero Effects require a good graphics card.Marin85 wrote:And is that NVIDIA+Intel graphics the kind of switchable graphics? Switchable graphics hasn´t died out with Windows 7, right?

As I understood it, yes...Marin85 wrote:And is that NVIDIA+Intel graphics the kind of switchable graphics?
It worked in Vista, why it shouldn't in W7?Marin85 wrote:Switchable graphics hasn´t died out with Windows 7, right?
Re: Check out specs on new Sony Z series...
Wasn´t there a statement from M$ viewing switchable graphics is obsolete and that they will not support it in future windows releases (incl. Windows 7 I believe)?
