How long can you stand without your Thinkpads?

#1 Post by Tasurinchi » Mon Feb 15, 2010 9:06 pm

Hi!

Tittle says everything... I'm on holidays and could not take any of my Thinkpads with me. I'm starting missing them... It's been 5 days so far, at least I can use my dad's old R50, but I miss my own ones...

Not very long. Got all my stuff in there ! And I love my old T40 too much (which is by the way still my workhorse despite its age : sufficient for my needs, solid, reliable)... other laptops aside from ThinkPads don't give me the same "feel" if you get what I mean... I love matte screens, good keyboards, the TrackPoint...

The T400 is such a match for me. I just got a six-cell battery.. yes the kind that sticks out .. like love handles ;)

I can't last too long without it.

I can't leave the house without my ThinkPad either. I can't stand being without my ThinkPad, even for one minute. :D I tried being without my ThinkPad and I just couldn't stand it.

I think I let Gollum speak for me:

"We wants it, we needs it. Must have the precious."

I'm working on my dissertation now and I'm on it constantly reading, writing, writing, running simulations....oh, and more writing.

My wife even refers to it as "the other woman", since it probably spends more time on my lap than she does.

This time I'm on holidays and immediately after that I'm on a business trip, so I had to carry my cheap ugly Dell from work, plus carry my (now ex) X31 to give it to one of my best friends. I did not want to carry three notebooks around due to customs issues. I gave up the little lady on day one and now I'm stuck with the Dell only. So I'm missing my TPs... :(

Oh... hopefully that "proportion" will change

Well, I was a bit limited where I could take the A31 becuase I didn't have a carry case and always had to use AC power as I *thought* the battery was completely dead. Hapilly though, I now have a carrying case for my ThinkPad and the battery actually holds a 30 minute charge. So I think I'll be taking it to lots of places now!!

If I was banned from using my ThinkPad A31 for, lets say a wekk, I think I'd probably get extrmely aggravated!

Whoever you gave it too is lucky! I love the ThinkPad X31's!

Since I can do most of my computing stuff from my Android phone, the NEED for my Thinkpad has dropped. However, if I'm using a non-Thinkpad laptop, I get frustrated (usually with the trackpad or Ins/del home/end pgup/dn keys) and feel the need for my TP almost immediately. As for simply being without it, it really depends on what I'm doing. God knows it would be with me at work if it weren't for the whole no-electronics-allowed-because-they-are-an-explosion-hazard thing. If I do any kind of traveling one is always with me.

Well, I don't hate it but I don't love it either. It just do the job and I can work with it. But the build is very cheap and has an almost purely "plastic" feeling...

I feel sligthly naked if I leave the house for a longer period of time without a laptop to come along. I can check my email from the Blakberry, but apart from that, the phone is just an emergency solution for browsing, etc.

However, I think it's a little overkill to bring the Thinkpad down to Moxie Jave just to do some quick surfing, so I bought a Lenovo S10-2. More handy size and no need for AC adapter, unless I spend more than 5 hours on. Then the T43 can live a more relaxed life back home and come along at occasions where I need more resources than the S-10-2 can give. But the S10-2 can never replace the Thinkpad, and the only thing about the S10-2 reminds me about a Thinkpad is the shape of the symbol for the HDD LED.

Indefinitely, as I no longer own one. I sold my T400 and am now completely Apple.

I do miss the TrackPoint and the keyboard, but the Apple keyboard is also very good, just not quite as good and very different in feel. I hate touchpads, but Apple's is the best of a horrible species.

My 15" MacBook Pro 2.8 GHz with 512 MB GeForce 9600M GT discreet graphics and matte screen is, however far slimmer, not much wider and not at all heavier than the T400 was. The Apple machine has a MUCH better screen, and of course it runs OS X all day at work, and Windows 7 at night for games.
