Adding memory to a partition
Adding memory to a partition
When I first received my computer from ASUS (U43J), the C: SYSTEM drive had 116 GB, 80 of which were free with the OS installed, while the D: DATA drive had a whooping 380 free, only one of which I have used for my user data (which I have moved over there) and very little of which I believe I will be able to use with this data. My question is whether there is any way to move memory from the D drive to the C drive, or whether I should just reinstall my programs onto the D drive, assuming this is possible.

Re: Adding memory to a partition
'Move memory' is probably not the best use of terms here. I believe what you are asking is if there is any way to move or reallocate disk space from D to C. The answer is that this is a physical impossibility, but you can reinstall some of your programs using the D drive as the target drive during the install routine. If you really have very little data space requirement, but a massive space requirement for apps and programs, I'd consider cloning C to D and then physically switching drives. Backup any data on D first. Moved thread to 'Off Topic'.

The likes of Gparted, Acronis Disc Director, Partition Magic et al will let you resize partitions.

True, but the OP has (2) separate drives...RealBlackStuff wrote:The likes of Gparted, Acronis Disc Director, Partition Magic et al will let you resize partitions.

I doubt that very much.
The Asus U43JC (14" laptop) comes with one 500GB HD, pretty much what C+D together are.

Re: Adding memory to a partition
Then we have a language or technical knowledge barrier here because the OP definitely referred to "C: SYSTEM drive" and "D: DATA drive".
Drives are not partitions. I did not look up the specs on the Asus because I would have assumed that someone technically saavy enough to post here and ask that level of technical question might know the difference between a drive and a partition...perhaps not. Now that I've had the chance to re-read the thread title "Adding memory to a partition", I think I've answered my own question.

Re: Adding memory to a partition
We're talking semantics here.
If you or I would split a (laptop) hard disk in 2 partitions, we too would call them the C-drive and the D-drive, wouldn't we?
Most laptops come with only one hard disk.
OP should rather have posted this on an Asus forum, to avoid confusion...

Re: Adding memory to a partition
Well, no I would call them C partition and D partition. It's interesting that the OP has posted several times, with often cryptic messages and at times with just system specs or a review of sorts, and has not responded once in any thread....ever. I wonder what the game is here. It's almost like we're talking to a bot. The fact that his signature contains links advertising something makes me suspicious. And why does he live in China and advertise specifically for a spanish language software? Sounds very dodgy and spam-like to me.

OK, this is a bot. I smell a Ban in the air ... - http://forums.cnet.com/5208-19411_102-0 ... dID=409618
This is a fairly sophisticated spambot, and ingenious if you ask me. It copies technical threads from one forum and posts them in another to get the Rosetta Stone Ads in the sig out there as spam. Impressive.
