finanlly long awaited 8 GB RAM modules for laptops

Eight gigabytes of memory in a laptop? On a single stick? Yeas please! Samsung is ramping up mass-production of a new 8GB DDR3 RM stick.

Samsung developed the new memory modules using a 40-nanometer fabrication process, and claims that the new RAM uses about half as much power as two 4GB DDR3 modules and a third as much power as a 1.8V DDR2 module.

Samsung has not yet confirmed pricing or availability for its 8GB module, but it did say that the new memory would be available as an optional add-on for Dell's Precision M6500 laptop (or as Dell calls it, "mobile workstation), so our guess is that general availability can't be too far away.
Who will be the first one to run 32 GB RAM in a laptop, please? :D

Hi Marin85,

How many laptops do you think could take this size of RAM?
T540p Win 7 Pro 64

X1 Carbon Win 7 Pro 64 for my wife.

Hi killer,

there are at least 4 different models I am aware of that come with 4 memory slots: ThinkPad W701, ThinkPad W510, Dell M6500, HP 8740w. I can´t say though how many units of these models have been built in total :)

I'd be happy to have 8GB of RAM in a laptop. 32GB of memory would make me down right giddy.

That being said, you know these RAM modules are going to be expensive to say the least.

WHOA! Thanks for the update...been waiting for this for my W700, as I'd love to stuff 16Gig into that baby via two sticks...

By the time you need 32GB of memory that laptop will be too old to use.
