Micron and hynix one and the same...

#1 Post by draco2527 » Thu Dec 09, 2010 6:10 pm

are they?

All I can say...I remember when "Micron/Crucial" made the claim that they were the #1 memory manufacturer in the world and they sold the "rejects" to everyone else...

I ordered some crucial memory (like I have done a hundred or more times in the past) and it arrived today. To my surprise, Crucial packaging/branding with "hynix" branded modules!!!

Figured I would share, since I am tired (not here) of hearing what memory is "best" :)

Crucial appears to buy raw DRAM from the open market and assembles them onto their module. I had a similar experience when I received a Crucial module and was surprised that it didn't have Micron chips on it. I asked them about it and they say they use whatever is available. Since the module industry is very cost-sensitive, they must have gotten a good deal for Hynix memory.

The kicker is, I opened the package AFTER the post and the other side has a HUGE "Hynix OEM sticker" and the front of the module (the one facing the crucial package window) has the "Crucial sticker"... ...ROFL!!!
