My desktop build
I have a desktop that I built a few years ago. ThermalTake WingRS/Intel motherboard D915GRV
It has Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium on a SATA 1TB HDD, and a max of 4GB memory RAM.
I inserted my old IDE 6GB HDD in it as a slave and was woundering if I could install apple software as the 2nd operating system. I have the Mac OS 8 install CD. Not sure if it will install or not, but heard that apple today will run on some PCs now. even seen you can run Apple OS on the IdeaPad S10.
Hers a image of my desktop. I wanted to make it a IBM, so I put the IBM logo and new silver lenovo bage on the front case

If the Mac software will not install at all I'll just use it for a mess around of my favorit operating system, "Windows XP"

Are you kidding? Mac System 8? That will not run on any Apple computer from 2000 or newer, let alone a "Wintel" PC! Maybe you could emulate it? The "hackintoshes" run system 10.4 or later.

Re: My desktop build
WingRS is a nice small case.
I thought about getting one for a budget build I was assembling recently for my parents, but since mom wouldn't hear of anything black, ended up going for a white HEC/Compucase 6A19.

Re: My desktop build
The G3 Macs are PowerPC (PPC) based. You can't run that OS on an Intel cpu. The OS from Apple is quite cheap. I see it in stores locally for $29. It's a bargain, but not exactly free.
A31p: 2653-N5U, 1.7GHz, 1.5GB, 320GB (upgr), CDRW/DVD, Win XP-Pro SP3
X41: 2528-5FU, 1.5 Ghz, 2GB, 40GB, Win XP-Pro SP3

Re: My desktop build
Sure, that is cheap, but I bet you that is only the upgrade edition. The full-install edition of system 10.6 costs at least one hundred USD, I think.mediasponge wrote:I see it in stores locally for $29. It's a bargain, but not exactly free.

Re: My desktop build
I don't think so. It doesn't say anything here about it being an upgrade edition. I don't think Apple bothers with that. Every Mac comes with OS pre-installed, so by definition, all retail software is an upgrade, but you can do a clean install to a blank disk from the retail box. I've done it. I think the difference in pricing is bare OSX, or OSX+iLife, etc. I'm far from an Apple expert, tho. Always read the fine print.
Re: My desktop build
I know for sure that Apple sells "upgrade editions" of their operating system, and have done so for years. That product at FRYS.com is 10.5 -> 10.6 upgrade only. True, the "full" edition does come with iLife and iWork; it is called "Mac Box Set" and costs $130 (rounded).mediasponge wrote:I don't think so. Re: My desktop build
Incidentally, if you're still interested in keeping that G3 alive, they are quite receptive to upgrades, though, given the prices, it doesn't really make much sense in the age of the netbook. The Pismo Powerbooks command pretty high prices a decade after they were contemporary, and the Lombards aren't a bad piece of kit either.

Re: My desktop build
I saw them online, "ebay" really all Apple Laptops I saw even older than mine were above the $100 range. for my PowerBook, I just need a HDD for it.I was just going to get a 8GB CF for it. that should be fine right? OS8 would be like Windows 98, don't need that much space?

Re: My desktop build
From what I have read, those G3 PowerBooks are indeed pretty good computers, comparable to ThinkPad T20 generation. If I had one, there is one killer upgrade that I would get in an instant: Zip drive.
If you will not be storing much on it, then even 2 or 4 GB is fine. If I remember correctly, I once minimally installed System 9 (no extra programs, not even StuffIt), and it used somewhere between 100 and 200 MB.ThinkPad560X wrote:I was just going to get a 8GB CF for it. that should be fine right? Re: My desktop build
I have an (IBM) internal 250MB Zip-drive, a 100MB IDE (for PC) Zip-drive and a bunch of 100MB Zip-disks for a very reasonable price.
PM me if interested.
