In addition, doubling the number of pixels does not necessarily mean more data on the screen. See this, for example:

IMO the pixel density of current iPad screen is insufficient to act as a true replacement for magazine and book reading - especially with the MacOS/iOS text rendering engine the way it is (tends to produce 'softer'/fuzzier-at-the-edges looking text than for e.g. MS Cleartype or Android).

Can't believe everything you read these days. The iPad2 launch presentation showed an iPad with exactly the same 1024x768 screen resolution of the original iPad.
