ThinkPad Stickers and other lettering
I have a ThinkPad SL500 that has the wrong stickers on it. Intel Centrino / Windows Vista Basic. My SL500 is a Intel Core 2 Duo / Windows XP Professional. I asked this question to a lenovo seller and he said the reason for some of the ThinkPads having the other stickers was because they ran out of them, such as "Designed for Microsoft Windows XP" and placed another one for it. How do I remove these stickers without ripping or bendding the corners on them. I can use the Intel Centrino on my R51 or something. Plus these stickers cost money. around 75C to 95C per one or if finding a good dealer.

Re: ThinkPad Stickers and other lettering
The windows vista basic sticker is the default on machines that come with xp (my t61 came with xp pre-installed, a vista bus. license, and a vista basic sticker). I guess that it just means that it will run xp since the sytemrequrements for vista basic = requrements for xp. I believe that if the computer came with a vista COA, then it will have a vista sticker, even if it comes with xp, and I think that msft just wants to let people forget about XP as fast as possible to cause people to upgrade.
The centrino sticker just means that you have an intel chipset, processor and wireless card. that processor can be any of the core series (core duo, core solo, core 2 duo, core 2 solo), but it cannot be a cheaper series (celeron/atom).
The end result is that you have the default stickers for the configuration that you have.

I think it is a rule of thumb that adhesive weakens with heat. If you ever need to get plastic tape off of cardboard boxes, a hair dryer helps a lot. And many things come off with steam, like wallpaper. But those computer stickers sure are hard to remove, especially if you want to keep them nice enough to be reused. I do not know if heat would help with computer stickers. I'll try it later today with a computer I do not care about.
edit: I cannot find the hair dryer, so I cannot try it out myself.

Re: ThinkPad Stickers and other lettering
I would use a combination of a hair dryer (as suggested above) and a very sharp, fine craft knife to lift the corner of the sticker and remove it it.
Incidentally, I removed the stickers from my X200s as I thought they spoiled its "clean" lines... prevaricated for months before doing so, however the deciding factor was a post on the Lenovo Design Matters blog which advocated removing them for the same reason:

Ok, that's how to remove stickers from a palm rest of hard plastic.
How do I remove stickers from the lid of my X60s with that TP rubbery, glittery surface?

Re: ThinkPad Stickers and other lettering
I find that the rubber finish is much more forgiving than other surfaces when it comes to sticker removal. Most stickers peel off with no trouble. If any adhesive remains, I use a cleaning chemical like Goo Gone. Word of warning: the solvents I used did no harm to the ThinkPad coat, but it did ruin the shiny plastic area over the indicator lamps. So as long you do not come near any glossy plastic, you should be able to safely clean-away any trace of the stickers.

It probably depends on the TYPE of Goo Gone.
I use Goo Gone with Citrus Power.
And I can use it on any part of any Thinkpad without any damage whatsoever.

I actually used Goof Off, and that is what ruined the glossy plastics. But now I know better, and indeed Goo Gone seems safer. I have no idea what these brand name products are made of. I never liked chemistry.

As RBS mentioned, there are 2 different types of Goo Gone. The spray bottle (citrus) is pretty harmless and works pretty well. The other type in the lighter fluid style can, is some serious stuff. I have also ruined a palm rest by grabbing the metal can. I only use it on metal, and then very carefully.

Agreed the Goof Off in the metal can is not for Thinkpad plastics. Heck, I think it makes you sterile
