BIos and software updates when shipped?

#1 Post by Guest » Sat Jun 12, 2004 1:38 pm

Hello I has a question about ordering.
I asked about how long it takes for orders to ship. The reply was .

"This is a busy time of year for all companies, and it will get busier.
Right now, new orders are taking about 2 weeks and could get longer as we goalong. Once we see what units are generating the most interest, we will be
placing a stock order for July on, so we may have them in a ready to go
depending......"

My question is if how often does IBM do updates on software and things. I don't need a computer till September so I won't buy until the very end of August. However, I don't want a computer that has been sitting in at my school for two months. What are the chances that important updates are put on computers every month or so?

It shouldn't matter. You can easily download any updates that are issued between now and then. Use either the IBM Update Connector that's preinstalled on your TP or download what you need a la carte from IBM's website.

If you want something to be concerned about, your warranty starts from when you bought the TP, not from when you started using it or when you registered it. If the model carries a 3-year warranty then 3 months may not matter, but that's a quarter of the warranty on 1-year models.

hausman gave you a good answer, but the direct answer to "What are the chances that updates have been done..." is "zero" in my experience. It is always left as an exercise for the buyer. ... jdhurst
