X200 eBay Auction

#1 Post by emtee3511 » Fri Feb 11, 2011 12:10 pm

re: http://cgi.ebay.com/Lenovo-Thinkpad-X20 ... 2eb3363eb9

A cracked screen, as in the above eBay listing, would NOT be covered by Lenovo Warranty?

I have installed a new lid/screen on a T42 -- would the process be similar in the X200? Actually, I installed a lid/with screen -- I'm guessing installing just the screen would be more difficult?

If you buy that machine I can install an AFFS screen in it for you at cost. I happen to have one :) It will be glossy though, not matte like the one you have.

Edit: The only issue is that the LCD in that machine is 42T0482. Need to see if it is an LED driven LCD. If it is, the CCFL LCD I have won't work without major modifications.

Need to see if it is an LED driven LCD.

Harry, is google or Lenovo (with the machine serial number) going to tell me that?

Yes I checked around and it looks like it has a TMD LTD121EWVB LCD. The sites I googled say it is CCFL, so my LCD would work.

[censored] I missed it! $275 for a X200, Core 2 Duo 2.4Ghz, 4GB RAM, 9-cell battery!?

Crack screen and no harddisk? No problem for me! I have a spare X200 LCD screen and a spare harddrive when I upgrade my X200 screen to AFFS and harddrive to SSD...

Great, this reminds me that I should go look for a cheap screen-less and harddrive-less X200 for my Linux projects!

I really did get lucky! :)
But I couldn't have placed a bid on this machine without Harryc's info/help -- Now I will be waiting to see what my new glossy screen looks like -- I guess I'm not a Thinkpad Purist, cause I kinda like the way some of the new glossy screens look, and I am excited to see the glossy effect on my new X200 --

I had a X200 with the glossy Hydis. The glare was occasionally was annoying, but I wasn't using it much with a light overhead. If you are then it may be worth consideration. I thought at full brightness the glossy LCD looked slightly better than the Hydis LED I have in my X200t, but at medium brightness, which I use more, the LED was better. Both are better than almost anything on the market now. Congrats on the X200. It's a great machine. The LCD is just icing on the cake.

+1. This particular machine is very nice, and since I just did the AFFS mod on it last night I have to say it came out really well. I didn't even crack the writing surface while removing it :). Glossy is fine unless you use it outside, or by a window on a bright day, or near any bright light that causes major shadowing. emtee3511 got an AFFS X200 in very nice condition for several hundred dollars below what you'd normally pay. The moral of this story is to keep an eye out for repair units on EBay...and to ask a lot of questions :).

Yes, I'm looking for a repair R60/R60e with a broken screen or something else easy to fix, but it seems every time I find one, it gets bid up over what I'm willing to pay or it's junk/optimistically described and I have to send it back. I am however willing to wait it out.
