Setting up a wireless bridge

#1 Post by catback » Wed Feb 23, 2011 3:32 pm

Hi,

I've successfully set up a wireless bridge at home using two Linksys WRT54G routers running DD-WRT. My primary/seconday router setup is pretty much identical to the diagram found on this page:

http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Wireless_Bridge

I will be adding a wireless laptop to be located on the same floor as the secondary router. Will it be possible for that laptop to connect wirelessly to the secondary router for internet access? It is physically too far from the primary router for a reliable connection. All material I've read about wireless bridges only talk about hard connecting computers to the secondary router so I wasn't sure if a wireless connection was possible.

You can try to connect wirelessly to that second router, according to that diagram it should work.
If not, add a WAP to your secondary router and you're definitely in business.

To follow up for those that may be in a similar situation, it is possible to have a client connect wirelessly to the secondary router. This setup is called a repeater bridge. Instructions can be found here.
