thx for the tip... unfortunately, it's all of no use - the self test doesn't even appear (or only for a second or so before the screen goes blank again)... will have to return it to Dell

I am thinking about buying the Dell 2405FPW, but am not sure whether it will run with my T41 (Radeon 9000 - 32MB).

Do you guys have a sense as to whether this setup would work? (with a ThinkPad Port Replicator II or ThinkPad Mini Dock for DVI)

Thanks!

The Dell 2405W runs fine on my ThinkPad T40 with a 32MB Radeon Processor. I must run it on the Port Replicator with the DVI slot though.

so it doesn't run using the VGA port on the laptop itself?

I have ordered the Dell 24-inch-screen (will arrive next week or so..).

When using an IBM X31 with ATI Radeon, will it be possible to connect the screen via DVI at a 1920x1200-resolution? The IBM-hotline says, the maximum resolution via DVI is 1260x...
Or do I need modified drivers?

The DVI-Port is available on my dock (Dock I, Type 2631) and on my old port replicator. Will it work or do I need a Dock II or a new port replicator?

If nothing helps: can I also connect the screen with the analogue-port at 1920x1200 or will it not work at this resolution?

Thanks for your help!

I have now received the Dell 24 inch. It's great and good quality (no dead pixels).

Unfortunately, the analogue signal taken directly from the output of the X31 is very poor (not sharp). I have read, that IBM has deactivated the DVI-output on the X31 series, so a port replicator won't help.

Currently, I am running the screen on a Matrox PCI-Card in a Dock I. But the reaction of the screen ist very slow, especially when trying to watch a DVD.
Does anybody know if it is because of poor RAM (only 32 MB) in the Matrox? I wonder if it will be faster when buying a bigger PCI-card but I am not sure if the speed isn't perhaps limited by the connection between the Dock and the Thinkpad (in this case, a better graphic card won't help of course).

I have now exchanged the Matrox card in the dock by an ATI Saphire PCI-card with 128 MB RAM, because the Matrox support said, the G450 will only support DVI with a maximum resolution of 1280x...

The new ATI has one analogue and one DVI-output. With analogue output everything works fine with a resolution of 1920x1200 @ 60 Hz. It is much faster than the old Matrox.

But when connecting the Dell screen to the DVI port and switching the resolution to 1920x1200, a synch-problem appeared and the screen went black. Nothing worked. I had to reboot and everything works fine now although it isn't possible to rotate the screen by 90 degrees when connected over DVI (the same synch problem appears then). The rotation works fine in analogue mode. Seems that in DVI mode 1920x1200@60Hz is not 100% supported...

got my 2405fpw too now. works fine on 1920 * 1200 on my T40P, VGA output. a bit unsharp, but I don't want to invest in a port replicator right now for the DVI output.

To llama_thumper:

Hi, I have the T40p and was wondering how you got the VGA to support the wide screen display? I am thinking to get Dell 2005FPW monitor.

If you can let me know, that would be great.

Thanks,

thinkpadder
