#1 Post by jronald » Wed Mar 09, 2011 3:02 pm

I have run into this on 2 different IQ test for job placement

The table below presents three columns—the first column lists the options available, the second column lists the prices for the individual options (not including other required options), and the third column indicates the requirements before the selected option can be purchased. Use the table below to answer the questions in this section.
Option.......Price......Requirement
A..............$1.50.....[None]
B..............$2.50.....[None]
C..............$4.00.....[None]
D..............$5.50.....[None]
E...............$8.00....Option C
F...............$9.50.....Options B & C
G...............$11.50...Options F & D
H...............$13.00....Options E & G

A customer, who has not previously purchased any options, is buying Option H in addition to a $24.00 product. What will be the total price of her order?

Answers
$54.00

$75.50

$78.00

$79.50

$82.00

Not saying what my answer is/was......but I will tell you its NOT listed above

Do the chain that to get H you need all the options except A. The total of these will be $54. Add $24 and the answer is $78...

Why would you do that?
Option H = $13.00
Add to that E and G for $8 and $11.50
Add to that $24.00
$56.50

Because options E and G require more options that also have to be paid for. As dr_st said, because of the requirements you need every option except A so the total should be $78.

Base Product ----------- $24.00
Option H --------------- $13.00
requires Option E ------------------- $ 8.00
.......... requries Option C ------------------------$4.00
requires Option G ------------------- $11.50
.......... requires Option D ------------------------$5.50
.......... requires Option F ------------------------$9.50
...................... requires Option B -------------------------$2.50
..................... requires Option C -------------------------$4.00
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
................................. $37.00 + $19.50 + $19.00 + $6.50 = $82.00

Darn it! -- I paid for Option C twice. Don't take me shopping.
