Best Malware Protection is BAD NEWS. How to remove it?

#1 Post by johnny9fingers » Fri Mar 25, 2011 11:15 pm

My son has this on his computer and I don't know how to remove it. It pops up and says there are viruses and attempts at identity theft. We haven't purchased it or installed the program, but it keeps popping up. Help me! How do I remove "Best Malware Protection".
Thank you.

Not a "How to or FAQ". Moved to the General forum.

I've dealt with differing versions of this thing three times. The first time was my own T42. I got so mad at myself for contracting my first virus in years of computing due to my own stupidity and stubbornness. I couldn't get some webpage to load in Firefox, and got so frustrated I dusted off Internet Explorer and pasted the URL into that. Instant infection! I was annoyed enough at this malware and its effects that I simply wiped my HD clean and used my restore CDs. When I calmed down afterward and was back on the web I researched the issue.

So, the next time was a relative, and I used manual instructions that are Googleable. But by the third time, which was my landlord's computer, I learned to just leave it to the free Malwarebytes -- and have put that on every one of those PCs now.

You may as well just bite the bullet and completely reformat and reinstall the operating system, that is really the only way you are ever going to ever get rid off it. Make sure to back up your files before-hand though. Sure you can use Malwarebytes and Safe Mode all you like, but this will take hours and may or may not get rid off the infection, so you should just reformat and reinstall. OK it will take longer but at least it'll be all gone!

From the various systems I cleaned up, these fake trojan alerts are getting through on systems running older versions of Java. That is one add-on best kept updated when using Internet Explorer as the browser.

Yeah, that no doubt is at the root of how all three cases I dealt with originated.
My proselytizing for Firefox has not taken root for these casual PC users, and in
my case I'm too quick on the finger to right click and use the FF add-on
"Open in IE" when something does not seem to want to load in Firefox.
