Need to kill Outlook

#1 Post by jronald » Wed Aug 31, 2011 11:27 am

Im leaving a company and need to kill my personal Outlook folders. This is not an Exchange Server if it matters. How do I do it?

I don't use Outlook, but here is what Google told me:

If that company is halfway decent, they would have plenty of backup copies.
But if it's on a PC or laptop, and there's no backup plan, copy the .pst file onto a USB-stick, then rename it to something inconspicuous (like howtorepairtoasters.doc), then delete that doc file.
Then create a new .pst file in Outlook with one harmless email in it or so.

The last time i left a company, i completely overwrote the HDD with zeroes using a Linux Live CD. After completion of the process a few hours later, i made a base install of Linux on the machine. Then i gave the notebook back.

Not finding a .pst file under 7. Im familiar with how to do it in XP with the .pst file.

It's most assuredly there. Go to the "Mail (32 bit)" icon in Control Panel and use the "Data Files" button to see where the pst file(s) resides.

I finally found it, but could not delete it. So I renamed it, then moved it deep into a program file. It could be found, but you would really need to look for it.

It doesn't make sense. Could rename and move the file, but not delete it? What about deleting it after renaming?
